Im reading Power Pack issues 13 to 17. Then reading Uncanny X Men 199 to 201 and then start reading original X Factor by reading Essential X Factor volume 1. I have a question. Is old original New Mutants really worth reading since I missed out on that when I was a kid back in the 1980s? Yes, the first 30-odd issues of New Mutants go from good to great. Sienkiewicz's stylized art was and is quite polarizing on the issues he did; I think it's brilliant. Early issues of New Mutants did well in our "Top 100 comic book sagas" poll last year. The more recent Zeb Wells run started off slowly but turned out well, and you can almost skip from the mid 30s of the 80s New Mutants right to #1 of Well's Volume 3 run without missing much.

I usually read trades and omnibuses, but this forum inspired me to trudge down to ye old storage unit to see what floppies I still seem to own. The answer is: not as much as I used to! Massive swaths of my collection (including ROM, Star Wars, Firestorm, Indiana Jones, Amethyst, and various issues in the middle of other larger runs) are not in the two boxes I found. Maybe there's a third box? I mainly collected from 1981-1986, but a few older titles have found their way into my collection, and I have read most of them many times. Here are some of those:

I read Ka-zar the Savage #10-12. I had picked Ka-zar the Savage #10 out of a long box as a totally random issue to read, and enjoyed it enough to find #11-12 online so I could get the end of the story. It had more humor than I'd have expected. I don't even know what possessed me to buy that issue in the first place since I was never a Ka-zar collector at all and the cover isn't particularly captivating. Still, it must have been a serendipitous purchase, since I liked it. I loved the early '80s Ka-zar series - I liked that Bruce Jones infused a lot of humor into his dialogue. The first 15 or so issues, which are all part of an extended story arc that takes place in Pangea, are the very best - after that, the stories lose steam a bit. Also, the art in that initial run is by Brent Anderson. Thanks. Maybe I'll check out the others of those first 15 issues or so.

Personally, I think it becomes unreadable once Sienkiewicz takes over, but to each his (or her) own. The only reason I like his run is because of the art. It has nothing to do with the plotting or scripting, which Claremont seemed to be aiming squarely at 13-year-old girls. Nothing wrong with that, y'understand, but really not my cuppa joe. Cei-U! I summon the qualification! That makes sense. Personally, I despise the art, but I think you're right about it being aimed towards 13 year old girls.

I don't even remember why I started picking it up because I had never been much of a Ka-Zar fan before. The art is great. Shanna the She-Devil has long been a favorite of mine, and I think I knew who she was (from back issues of Daredevil probably) before Ka-Zar #1 came out. And a compelling storyline right from the first. And also, Zabu is pretty awesome! There should be a Lockjaw/Zabu team-up mini-series. I'll be at the LCS to pick that one up!

And that Batman cover is one I've seen before but I don't think I've read it. Detective #377 is, of course, a longtime favorite stupid Silver Age Riddler story. And then ... the Juggernaut and Mod Diana! That is a nice little stack for an airplane trip!

I didn't make it through X-Factor # 1 when I tried to read it recently. I just remember a bunch of words not really saying anything. Maybe I should jump forward the the Simonson's run?

What if Vol 2. # 41.
What if the Avengers Fought Galactus.
Every time I enjoy a '90s Marvel comic I question my own judgement but...
I really enjoyed this. I guess I have a fan-fictiony sweet spot for variations on comics I really like.
So this is the first Galactus story from Fantastic Four # 48-50 in a world where the Fantastic Four (and, by proxy, the modern age Sub-Mariner, Doctor Doom, and post WW 2 Captain America - who was discovered frozen BY the Sub-Mariner - don't exist.)
So 1) Thor fights the Silver Surfer. 2) Hercules punches Galactus in the crotch. 3) Iron Man searches for the Ultimate Nulifier and... completely fails. 4) The Swordsman shows up all "I was an Avenger for one issue, have at the Galactus!" and just gets killed in one panel. It's like Galactus is stepping on a particularly slow and stupid slug. 5) Hawkeye, the Wasp, Golath, Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch all... don't do very much. 6) The Hulk shows up and just stars punching #$%^. 7) Then the Watcher fights Galactus.
6 of the seven of those things were awesome. The art by Jim Valentino and Sam de la Rosa is faux Kirby to an distracting degree but by the end I was swept up enough in the story that I stopped caring. Good stuff. I guess '90s Marvels are fine if they don't take place in the '90s?

I'm just starting to re-read the original run of Generation X. I know there is/was a second series that I've never read. Once I finish this, I'll start that.

Are you talking about the one that just ended? It doesn't have much to do with the original series until the final arc, but it was a fun book. It's been a while since I've enjoyed a new X-book, so it sucks that it got cancelled.

I was also glad to see that at the end of it Jubilee had her firework powers back.

Just read my copy of Nick Fury #1!
Loved the art! As for the story, it seemed a bit off. First of all, Fury gets hit with a stray bullet during a battle with Scorpio but it never explains where the bullet came from (or perhaps it does in a later ish). I also found some of the scene jumps jarring. For example, Fury is out in the desert one moment and the next he is at the headquarters in the Nick of time to thwart Scorpio. Again, minor things just made it feel like it was not in the hands of a most seasoned writer. I noticed Steranko also gets the writing credit...did he write all of his issues he drew? I have a few others and will have to re-read his other Nick Fury stuff again to see how the writing is. In some cases, the artwork stands alone better than the writing, which I loved (especially the opening panels with no words).

Today an hour and half ago I read Uncanny X Men # 200-203.
Rhodes issues were good mostly issue 200. Didn't care too much of the Beyonder Secret Wars II tie in issues .
Now I need to read issues 16-24 of original Power Pack and then after that read Uncanny X men 205.
That'll be enough reading for this weekend
