My friend had a 7800 and got crazy good at Xevious, to the point it was really annoying waiting for your turn. The game that we had issues with for the 2600 was Defender. We were all good at it - I think my best was getting to Level 105 - but my friend Larry was some kind of savant. The game would reach a certain level of difficulty and wouldn't get any harder, so if you could beat that difficulty and keep your concentration, you could theoretically play forever. Larry tested that one memorable day, when we watched him play literally for hours. When he reached Level 700, his mother finally turned the system off and made us all leave so their family could have supper. We got Defender when we purchased the system. My younger brother played for hours until I got tired of waiting to go to supper and just unplugged it. I think the only game he never mastered was the infamous E.T.

The right stick on both my PS3 remotes are working funny. Looks like I'll need a new controller.

One of my proudest moments as a young boy was flipping the scoreboard in Asteroids on the 2600.. took like 3 hours, IIRC. Somehow, my parents didn't appreciate the achievement and refused to take a picture I remember taking a couple polaroids and sending scores in for Activision badges, too. I also did, in fact, beat the ET game... I liked it when I was like 10 and it was new.

I just downloaded the demos for Darksiders and Red Faction Armaggedon. I played a bit of Darksiders and gave the controllers to my son. Smash em up games have such limited appeal to me (and I'm not good at them anymore) but he loved it after playing the demo so I downloaded it for $4.99 on Xbox live. I myself liked Red Faction. It's a third person shooter that reminds me of an amalgam of Dead Space and Bioshock. I liked it really well just from the demo and may buy it while it's on special for $7.49.

Anyone else in the Destiny beta at the moment? Just wondering what other people are thinking of it.

I hope one day we get a Marvel game as fun as Marvel Ultimate Alliance (the first one) or as good as the Batman Arkham games. The closest I've played is Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction (Great open-world game that came out late in the first XBox generation. That said, it can be played on the 360, so if you can find a copy, I recommended it.)

I haven't played a lot of it (my son borrowed it from a friend) but Amazing Spider-Man on 360 was fun to play. Open world and all. Cool costumes of the few I found.
Hulk UD best part was playing Fixit, though the whole game is the closest to perfection an open world game can get. And one of my top ten games I've played ever.

I just got the YLOD on my Playstation.
Wasn't planning on buying a new console for about another year, but may be buying one tomorrow. I use that thing to watch TV with, no cable.

I don't understand why whoever has the licenses for the Marvel character is sitting on them when the properties as arguably the hottest they've ever been. The X-Men Legends and Marvel Ultimate Alliance games were the last time a good X-Men game was made. I would love a Marvel-themed game on par with Arkham Aslyum/City. Avengers, X-Men, Hulk, whatever. Since video games make more money than any other entertainment medium right now I don't get why they aren't leaping all over this

Completely agree with you.
I'm hoping Valiant or Dark Horse get in the game with some cool Armorines or X.

You can fix YLOD using a hair dryer or heat gun. More info here. You can also send it to Sony (which I did) and pay $100 to get it fixed. How did you watch TV on it?

I have read that when you send it in they just give you a different refurb, and you lose all your data. I sent an email to a local video game shop to see if they can repair it. The things I've read online about the hair dryer trick say it's a very short lived repair, long enough to get your game out and back up your data before it breaks again, but you'll basically need to buy a new machine. So I'm willing to pay $100 to get this fixed just because I wasn't quite ready to get a next gen console yet.

It sucks, I backup my game saves in a flash drive just in case now. I know people that have used the hairdryer trick once and their PS3 still works, several years later. It seems like a bit of work to take everything apart though. If you have an old fat PS3 and depending on the model, you may qualify for a free upgrade to the slim version if you go through Sony. You can also file a claim with the BBB and get a free game out of it, because there is a known fault in the glue used on the motherboard, and I felt I shouldn't have to pay extra for their mistake. They called me after it was repaired and I got to choose any game out of the Sony studios lineup. If you have a game stuck inside I can help you get it out. There is a method you can try without opening up the PS3.
