I'm enjoying my second play through very much. I'm sure not knowing as much of the character's history is throwing of my perception of how she develops in this situation that she's forced into. It's certainly not detracting from enjoy the game.
And now that I know how much I like my rifle I can divert more salvage to it over the other weapons. Though I do like my silenced handgun too. Shotgun is probably the least used as an actual weapon.

I never noticed before how some rooms and some of the architecture of the Church in Dead Space 2 has a HR Giger tone to it. I just walked in the this hall and felt like I was in the derelict ship in Alien.

Yeah I've heard quite the praise for the Xbox1 even over the 360. Thanks for the heads up impulse. I got my wireless reader for my PC ordered for the 360 controllers we already have. So I'm sure that will work with this too. With a controller now, who knows, I may play my first PC game since Oregon Trail.

I love the new Tomb Raider games--some of my favorite games ever.
Does anyone here play The Elder Scrolls Online?

I found a loophole around my quesy stomach for violence on my second play through. I know just which skills not to upgrade and I still made it through the game without too much difficulty on normal. If I decide to buy the game (since I played on a borrowed copy) I don't know how easy I'll get by with that on a harder difficulty.

In case anybody was wondering where I've been the past few weeks. I'm stuck in Andromeda.
Mass Effect: Andromeda looks to be the child of Mass Effect 1 and Dragon Age 2, with bits of Mass Effect 3 thrown in for Multiplayer and Dragon Age Inquisition to fill out the maps. I like all those games, so I'm enjoying myself so far.

I finally bought Breath of the Wild. My oldest son has been playing it all weekend. In fact he hasn't played anything else all weekend. I haven't got a chance to play it lol. It's alright, I've got the patience of an old man. He says it's the best Zelda game he's played. And he's played em all the way back to my OoT cart.

Say goodbye to your free time for the next several months. I think I have 65 hours into it already and I'm maybe around half done.

I'm thinking I'll give it a go this weekend since I know it's going to be too involving and time consuming for an weekday evening. But I've watched my son play some. It looks really nice. I've never played Skyrim, but I've seen my son play it, and just watching to two games, I can see the comparison being made of how similar BotW is to Skyrim. Taking a more realistic route, with food, to replace energy instead of cutting grass for hearts, how much equipment he can carry, and armour too. But I didn't watch any battles so that will be all new to me. I'll post something when I get to play it for the first time. I did buy a few games with Microsoft's spring sale; so I have been playing through Tomb Raider. It seemed a good chance to get it since it was only $5. I also got Thief for like $4 and Remember Me for $5. I also got the rest of the Minecraft Story Mode for like $8, but that's more for the kids than me. I think the story mode took all the good things out of Minecraft, so it's a choose your own adventure movie than a game. I'm actually getting more games that I can play. Microsoft has been crazy good with their sales these past few years. I can't help myself lol.

That all sounds good. Yeah, BotW is similar to Skyrim in the high level mechanics, but it's more enjoyable in a lot of ways. BotW is more juvenile and simplistic, but it is SO polished gameplay wise. The first chunk takes a good 2-3+ hours to really finish, but it's really well done. I'm sure you'll like it.
Funny thing about old games. I try to do the same thing with catching past classics on a deal, and I've gotten a lot of good ones that way, but I'm finding there is a definitely line with how far I can go back. If a game is old enough and I didn't play it at the time, I just can't get into it due to dated mechanics. For example, I picked up the original Max Payne on Steam, and I just can't get into it. The gameplay is too dated, especially the AI. You walk into a room and enemies are instantly firing at you though they didn't know you were there seconds ago. There seems to be no accounting for stealth, field of vision, etc. It's like they just detect you within a certain proximity. Compared to, say, Red Alert 2 which I played the crap out of back in the day and still love to this day.

A while ago I played some of the original Deus Ex (released in 2000), which many people consider the greatest game ever made. It is a fun game, but it is very dated in some ways. The stealth AI especially seemed very unpredictable. It is a pretty neat game though, and definitely an important one.

Yeah, I hear you. Games from the mid-late 90s through early 2000s, especially the PSX/N64 era 3d games really suffer the most in that category. I also know what you mean about recognizing some games were very important or relevant in their time although they do NOT play well today unless you have familiarity and nostalgia for them. I love the early Resident Evil games, but if I tried them for the first time today I might chuck them in the garbage.

On the subject of old games, I am finding it's hard to go back much further than PS3/360/Wii. PS1 makes an exception, with at least most of the games I own, but I understand that is complete nostalgia on my part. I can recognize Cloud stumbles around on the open world map like a drunk because of that tank d-pad. But I can enjoy it despite it. The GBA Castlevania and Metroid games are still good to me too, but I play them on my GC via the gameboy player.
PS3/360 games are keeping me so bogged down in games I haven't played that I have not even seriously thought about buying a PS4/One. It's easily my favorite generation of consoles, and if Microsoft keeps up these sales, I'm gonna regret not getting the biggest HD available for the 360. I'm tempted to get a Switch this year sometimes because both my boys like Nintendo's IPs and my youngest loves portable gaming. He's literally the only reason I own any Nintendo portables. So the Switch, I think, would be a big hit and money better spent than a PS4/One. Plus I can always get a console at some point. Hell I bought an Atari in 1999 or 2000 on ebay and it worked all the way up until I sold it for a good profit 5-6 years ago.
