I think I did Skyrim a bit of a disservice because I came RIGHT off of Oblivion since I started that so late and had played HOURRRSS. I was still burnt out on Bethesda RPGs when it came out. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had a few years in between.

I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had a few years in between. I can see how that would happen. I need to be in the right mood to tackle a big RPG, and that doesn't happen very often. The Witcher 3 has been in my backlog forever. I need to replay Oblivion sometime. I played a fair bit but never finished, and I can't remember why. I never even played the Dark Brotherhood quests, which were the highlight of Skyrim for me. I did like what I played though. I remember being bitten by a vampire, and then having no idea why I kept dying when I ran around in the daytime.

I can see how that would happen. I need to be in the right mood to tackle a big RPG, and that doesn't happen very often. The Witcher 3 has been in my backlog forever. Yeah, I hear you. It takes so much time and mental energy that takes me a long time to recharge. I'm in the middle of a play through of Dragon Age Origins for the first time, about halfway, and I'm on a several months hiatus. I love the game. No intention of quitting. Fully will go back to it, but man, it takes a lot of time and energy that I don't want (or have) to commit right now. Whereas if I need to unwind, I can fire up Unreal Tournament and knock out a few 10 minute rounds. I'm currently playing The Talos Principle which is super cool and fairly short. Yeah, you should. I think it has aged magnificently well visually. Well, the environments and lighting, anyway. Let's not speak of the character models. But yeah, I actually think overall Oblivion was better than Skyrim. It did a lot of things MUCH better. I loved the crafting and spell making/item enchanting mechanics that were greatly simplified or left out of Skyrim. However, Skyrim did fix a few major quality of life issues, mainly the appalling leveling/enemy scaling system. I can also see why you might not finish Oblivion.. the oblivion gates at the end were so much and tedious. I almost burned myself out casually doing the gates when they randomly appeared before realizing you had to spend so much time in them as part of the quest. That plus if you don't manage your leveling properly the enemies will scale you right out of the game. Definitely flawed, but great in a lot of ways. I need to look into it more. There are mods that correct some of the issues, but with a toddler and a baby at home I don't have time to mess with that right now.

One thing I wish was different about Skyrim (and ESO) is I think they quest lines should be exclusive. It just seems weird to me that you can join the Dark Brotherhood and be an Eye of the Queen. Or that you can reach the top of the profession in everything. If you pursue the mage line, then it should probably eliminate the fighter line. Dark Brotherhood or Thieves' Guild. It would encourage more replays (for Skyrim) and creation of more characters (for ESO).

I keep forgetting how weak I am in my new save file. My original character (a Nord named Bob) was an ultra-powerful assassin/archer when I stopped playing, but my new character is still pretty feeble. Yesterday somebody I robbed sent some thugs to kill me and it took 20 minutes and all of my health potions to beat them. One thing I wish was different about Skyrim (and ESO) is I think they quest lines should be exclusive. It just seems weird to me that you can join the Dark Brotherhood and be an Eye of the Queen. It would encourage more replays (for Skyrim) and creation of more characters (for ESO). I see what you mean, but I'm glad the quest lines aren't exclusive. Replaying large parts of the game to access a different set of quests would take a lot of time and get repetitive for me. I do wish that once you became the leader of a group there would be more acknowledgement of that throughout Skyrim. If I'm the leader of the Dark Brotherhood, the Thieves' Guild, the College of Winterhold, and the Companions, you'd figure people would be a little more respectful! I can see why it would be difficult to implement though.

I've started the Thieves' Guild quests in Skyrim. Boy, my character has rapidly gone from a fairly decent person to, er, not a very good person at all.
Yesterday I was in a tavern in Whiterun, and had just asked a follower to help me on my adventures. Just outside the tavern was an argument about the civil war in Skyrim. I haven't chosen a side in this file yet, but one of the people involved was saying some pretty nasty stuff, so I punched him. A guard ran up to arrest me, and as I was trying to bribe him so I wouldn't lose all of my stolen gear, my new follower starts whacking him with a greatsword, and was swiftly cut down by the guards. Then I had to bribe another guard. I've never had a follower die within 2 minutes of meeting them before.
I've also noticed that Stephen Russell, the voice of Garrett in Thief and Corvo in Dishonored 2, is the voice of quite a few characters in Skyrim.

Yeah, I've noticed my character's dark descent as well. Another reason I felt how I did about the different quest lines.

Monster Breeder. Mostly text walk-around game. monsterbreeder.com/Breed King Kong and Predator and get Predakong. Breed the Blob with a Giant Ant and get Giant Blob of Ants. Breed Ghost and Zombie and get Gumby! Breed the Gremlin with Evil Car and get AMC Gremlin (There's not much more to the game than that, but what more do you need?)

So the Secret of Mana remake was released yesterday. The reviews so far have been average to disappointing, but I'm still anxious to play it for myself. Didn't know it was coming out on the PS4. Or maybe I forgot. Hopefully I'll get around to playing it. Someone has already one a playthrough a couple of days before the official release. It's in parts.

It took me about 15 hours to beat. Unless you can get a physical, I would not pay $40 for it. Definitely wait until it is $20 or less. It crashed on me about 10 times and the enemy evasion rate is through the roof. The majority of your attacks will miss. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed playing it, but it was also very frustrating in several parts. The cannon travel animation has been cut, so you no longer see the characters flying over the world map in mode 7 - not a huge deal, but no need to cut it. There is NO additional content. The new graphics feel very uninspired and cookie cutter. The wow factor this game had back in 1992 is completely missing from this remake.

Didn't know it was $40. Indeed. If you pay $40, just make sure it is for the physical copy, which will probably retain most of the value. It is unfortunate that Square Enix never maximized the potential of this franchise. Final Fantasy Adventure (Mana 1) was a great Gameboy game and the remake, Sword of Mana, for the GBA was also good. Seiken Densetsu 3, a sequel to Secret of Mana for the Super Famicom, was the best in the series; hopefully, they finally give it a US release. Even Secret of Evermore was an excellent game. The last decent game in the franchise was Legend of Mana.

I have not before and still do not feel physical and digital copies of games are equally valuable, so it still annoys me to see digital copies sold for the same full retail price of their physical counterparts. The lack of resale ability makes them inherently less valuable in my opinion. I suppose there is an argument to be made that the convenience of downloading and having cloud access instead of local storage is a check in the Pros column for digital, but then you are at the whim of the service to provide that. If they shutter their servers and it's not downloaded you are out whereas to my knowledge a company cannot remotely brick a disc (yet!! muhahahahaa!).
Side note, I just finished The Talos Principle on PC. What a cool game. It is a first person puzzle game (no combat) where you unlock bits and pieces of the story as you go. Very cool if you like old school Sci-Fi in the vein if Isaac Asimov and the like. Highly recommended.

Sadly same issues as with many other remakes of old RPGs for PC seem to plague Steam's release of Chrono Trigger. A shame as it is one of the greatest games ever, but they used an iOS port.
Just finished up a Lords of the Fallen after starting it years ago, but not getting far into it. It's a Dark Souls-like game, but different enough to not be a complete copy. Overall not a bad game, but a lot of missed opportunities and if you don't go exploring for scrolls, most of the backstory will be lost on you (including an endboss that comes out of nowhere unless you went back to certain places later in the game). Also the intro movie has nothing to do with the game proper so that is quite confusing.

My son has been playing Dying Light almost non-stop since he got it 2 months ago or so. So I've tried twice to play it and so far I don't get the appeal as much as he does. The game itself is good enough. But between doing the parkour stuff from a first person viewpoint, and not being able to set up the controls the way it would feel more naturally for me; I find myself getting annoyed and not progressing well.
I do very much like the aspect of building and constructing things from spare parts found around in the world. And the graphics are nice and the world itself is large and varied. So I am going to try it a few more times to see if I can get accustomed to the things that seem to be roadblocks for me.
I also got Warframe. This is my first free to play game. And I have been thinking about getting into it, because it's by the same developers that made Dark Sector, one of my favorite third person shooters, ever. But for as long as I've been playing (offline on my Xbox1) I am kind of getting to the point that I'm just farming for stuff already.
I don't have an aversion really to spending money on digital stuff (I've bought DLC for lots of games) but being it is a F2P game, I am guessing that's why the stuff seems overpriced to me. I discovered there is two glaive weapons (the primary melee weapon in Dark Sector) which would give me even more of a Dark Sector feel, but $10 USD seems a bit much for a single weapon. Between the many different items you can use to construct things, buying the blueprints to know what those items are with in game currency, and having to overall level up (as in weapons, frames is what they call armour, and other extras are locked out even to buy with real cash) until you reach certain level it makes for the start of the game seeming like you should already be halfway through the game.
But I love that it is a lot like Dark Sector in it's frames (armour suits) environment, weapons, and enemy designs. If you ever played Dark Sector you can really see in Warframe. And in the history of Dark Sector it was originally suppose to be a space epic much like Warframe is rather than the game that it ended up being. There are a lot of missions that come up in game. Some are always there and some have time limits on them. I get something each time I log on, even weapon blueprints, and other daily bonuses if I want to take up those missions. Plus the actual progression in the in game story, which is what gets your overall level up to unlock other weapons and frames.
So I am going to keep at it too. Maybe at some time I might buy something. The other thing is too, is my son plays it too (not as much as me) and anything bought (unlike Xbox DLC) he would have to spend money to buy it for his game too. So I am kind of hesitant to spend any money unless a really good deal comes along on one of the bundles that might make it worth it. But for now I think I am going to hold off on spending any money at this point.
