I watched the entire series through Netflix a while back. It's decent, wasn't my favorite crime drama, but it's a cut above a lot of network stuff, especially back then. I was wondering how it might come across to someone watching now for the first time. Yeah, I imagine it wouldn't be quite such an eye-opener as it was back when it first aired. But at the time it was really something special, for awhile, at least. I wonder if anyone's done a list of all the HBO-style series that have come out in the years since then. Was Oz the first? I never watched The Sopranos, but I understand the guy behind Mad Men came from that show. I saw an episode here and there when it was running, whenever the cable company was giving away an HBO promo for a week, or month, or whatever it was. Whenever that was going on it would be HBO 24/7 at our house. But since it was an ongoing plot drama seeing an episode here and there like that didn't work as well as following the series so I wasn't a fan of it at the time.

One of the greatest shows ever if you ask me. The only other high concept show of this nature that came before (I think) would be Profit, which was amazing but didn't last nearly that long. OZ probably had the best cast on TV ever.

OZ probably had the best cast on TV ever. There's definitely a case for that, but one close competitor for best cast is Tom Fontana's previous series, Homicide: Life on the Street. Particularly the original cast of the first three to four seasons, who were fantastic. And on that note, whatever happened to that Fontana Batman story that was announced a few years back?

HUGE HUGE Homicide fan. Absolutely fantastic casting and writing. It's because of that show I went straight to OZ because Fontana was involved. Never saw his subsequent work
