Don't know why they wouldn't count Four Rooms (never seen it myself BTW). It's also not in the Quentin Tarantino boxset I have (but True Romance *is* for some reason.)

I'd love to have seen a True Romance directed by Tarantino. Even as it is, I think it's a good movie with some outstanding performances, but Tarantino's direction would I think have elevated it to the level occupied by his other films - IOW with the very best of of their era.
Four Rooms wasn't all that great but probably worth a look for fans. Tarantino's entry isn't up there with his best, but still entertaining enough. The Rodriguez one is only OK. I remember it mostly for the dancing girl on the tv the kids were watching who turned out to be Salma Hayek, somehow managing to steal the show even though you only see her legs. I can't remember much about the other two stories - maybe I should watch it again myself.

I LOVED From Dusk till Dawn because it goes like this Gritty crime movie, getting dark darker, oh man, this is so tense, what's going to ha--F*** it, VAMPIRES!!!" I also appreciate campy sci-fi/horror stuff, so it was a lot of fun.

The trailer for the new live action Jungle Book is fantastic, though Scarlet Johansen's voice as Ka was slightly off putting to me. twitter.com/TheJungleBook

Kind of conflicted after watching that. Should I really be turned on by the voice of a snake? Good question, and the answer is of course yes.

Should I really be turned on by the voice of a snake? If they wanted sensory pleasing voice to add to Ka's repertoire of sly I'd throw in Beth Gibbons, Gina Bellman or Melora Harte. All ladies with pleasing voices. I'm sure there's quite a lot more voice actresses whose name aren't coming to me now that would fit.

Looks like infamous and revered director Richard Stanley (he who was kicked off a version of Island of Dr. Moreau and tried to return and ghost direct disguised as an extra) has been confirmed as the director for an adaptation of the Colour out of Space by HP Lovecraft. It' one of my favorite Lovecraft stories, so I am curious what Stanley will do with it. EW story....and Dread Central's report on the EW article-M

It's not Scarlett Johansen's voice that interests me, if you know what I mean.

EW story....and Dread Central's report on the EW article-M the article states that would be his first movie since 1992's Dust Devil (beautiful and boring as hell) , but he made many documentaries very close to fiction. I saw them all at a film festival in France and they were all awefull but nevertheless interesting. Stanley is a great director but a poor storyteller, so I hope he'll get a decent budget and a good co-writer. There already is a film adaptation of the same short story, a very slow paced and eerie B&W german film. It is kind of interesting but as too often with film adaptations of Lovecraft falls very short...

I watched The Bank Job (2008, so not quite classic?) with Jason Statham over the weekend, which is currently on Netflix instant. It wasn't his usual bad ass action film. There was about 5 minutes of his trademark melee fighting in the whole film. At two hours, and several interruptions, I still quite enjoyed it. It prefaces with the movie that his is based on facts and events that really happened but have been stifled by the British government due to the implications of royalty being involved. Good film though and worth the watch. Kind of plays like a British Mission Impossible episode with all the espionage and multiple players too keep up with.
Also, for those not British, you might have to, like I did, keep wikipedia's popular British slang page open to understand everything. There's no American language in this movie, it's all English. :-)

Looks like Pacific Rim 2 has been taken off the schedule and postponed indefinitely by Universal, which pretty kills chances of it ever getting made. Del Toro passed on a lot of projects to put his time and energy into that projects, so I wonder what he will do next.

And then somehow he become this action hero. I also liked the Bank Job a lot when I saw it. It was far more serious than I originally thought it'd be, but it's not bad. Next Monday, I'm going to take some friends to see the Martian. Reviews so far have been positive, the book was really good, so I'm looking forward to it.

Next Monday, I'm going to take some friends to see the Martian. Reviews so far have been positive, the book was really good, so I'm looking forward to it. I'm pretty easily sold on Statham movies, as I have/am on Jackie Chan as far as action stars. Transporter was what introduced me to him, and I think Transporter 2 was already out when I watched the first one. I had watched several others of his before discovering the Guy Richie movies (though I still haven't seen Mean Machine). I usually prefer him the stereotypical loner action character, not that he can't act other roles, but it seems like they just aren't good stories, when they try to be both. But with Bank Job and Richie's movies, they seem to be able to give him a good role outside of the badass. Unlike, for me, War, which I watched right after Bank Job that night, that didn't wow me at all by trying to give him a more dramatic role but still have action. I think Hummingbird (U.S. release Redemption) is probably my favorite of his, with Transporter, Safe, and Parker being right behind them. In The Name of the King, I was actually quite surprised with. I thought for a fantasy film, he didn't seem at all out of place and it worked for me. Though I know a lot of people don't care for Uwe Boll.
