I watched Thor Dark World just this past weekend. I was at my sister's when my folks were in town and we all watched it together. I wasn't near of a fan of it as I am the original. It wasn't necessarily anything wrong with any character; Loki, Thor, Kurse, Malekith, etc. But it certainly didn't have the feel and atmosphere of a Thor movie. To be honest, it kind of felt like a Star Trek movie, with Capt Kirk welding Mjöllnir. It was still a fun movie. But the futuristic turret laser blasters as Asgard's defence, the dogfights, Malekith's mothership, spatial anomalies, dimensional shifts, and rifts all gave it a ST feel. Hell they even had "red shirts" to send against Kurse.
I'm hoping the following movie, will have more of the "ancient gods" feeling that I think the first one balanced well with the movie being in a modern setting to introduce Thor to Midgard.

Yeah, I fell asleep during Thor Dark World. I just found it boring, and easily the weakest of the modern Marvel movies IMO.

Are you guys talking about Thor : the dark world? My almost-favourite Marvel movie? As they say, you can't win 'em all!

I thought it felt a LOT like the type of space opera that you got in Thor especially in the 70s. Far from my favorite Marvel movie. But it was decent.

I guess when I think Thor I don't think space opera save, Beta Ray Bill, or Thor with the Avengers. The movie was quite entertaining, it just was far removed from the first film so it didn't seem the same to me. Still a better movie than most of the other more lauded Marvel movies, like Avengers.

I liked it better than Iron Man 3 Talk about damning with faint praise. Still a better movie than most of the other more lauded Marvel movies, like Avengers. It seems our tastes in movies differ far more than our tastes in video games. I thought the Avengers was easily in the top three Marvel movies, though I admit I haven't seen Civil War yet. Different strokes for different folks.

I thought the Avengers was easily in the top three Marvel movies, though I admit I haven't seen Civil War yet. Different strokes for different folks. :-) Yeah they probably will. Team comics have never been easy to impress me. I think it takes a great writer to make team books work. And even then, I don't care for the multi-faceted focus on multiple characters, over one or two. So I guess that translates to movies as well. GotG no doubt wins me over because I am a bigger fan of the characters, and know many of them outside them joining the team. And I think they did well with keeping the characters individuals and also as part of the team. Whereas Avengers didn't seem to allow the characters to shine on their own as much. But I will concede I have not had any additional viewings of it since I watched it the first time, when it was available on Netflix, after leaving the theaters. So I am maybe being harder on it then I would with another viewing.

Saw Marvel Civil War and it's quite explosive and I enjoyed it very much. I wished that I had seen it earlier!

saw a good French movie a couple nights ago: the subtitled version I saw was given the English name Disorder, not sure what the original French title was. Kind of a thriller, I think you'd have to call it, but hard to classify in our usual Hollywood terms. I don't want to praise it too highly - in some respects it was a very ordinary, though never less than professional, piece of film-making - but there were a few little touches that make me want to keep an eye out for anything else by the director, Winocour.
The combat scenes are some of the best I can remember seeing, but - fair warning - 180 degrees removed from the usual action-movie style (which I'm a fan of, BTW) one expects. Not that what is done here is unprecedented, just that it's done really well, IMO.
Also one of the better soundtracks I've heard in recent years. Credited to "Gesaffelstein", apparently the stage name of a French DJ - no idea if that means he composed the music or just sampled it from other sources.

Oddly enough, the French title is "Maryland".
Now you've made me curious about it!
