I'm looking forward to this one. I'm not familiar with the original comic, but there's no time like the present to get caught up.

Alien: Covenant... the trailer is up! It looks like a retread of Alien and Aliens, but hey... it's still Ridley Scott. For a film that he said was going to be so different than the aliens films that he didn't want to put the Alien tag line on it originally...it does seem a lot like the original Alien

I'm looking forward to this one. I'm not familiar with the original comic, but there's no time like the present to get caught up. It'll be good; just because Besson excels at this kind of wild storytelling. How much of Christin and Mezieres will make it through is hard to gage, by the trailer. It looks great, though and is the first sci-fi movie since the Fifth Element, for me, that looks like it will be both fun and exciting, while capturing the more philosophical and intellectual take on sci-fi and space opera that the Europeans seem to bring. Blade Runner 2049 left me ambivalent, and Alien Covenant looks like same s---, different movie; but, this has me really excited to see it. I'd love a series of these far more than additional Star Wars films.

Not a genre film; but, this looks like an incredible piece of work:
The film is based on the novel, by Hans Fallada, which was based on Gestapo files about Otto and Elsie Hampel, who spread dissent against the Nazis via anonymous cards left in stairwells and other well travelled places.
This also looks like fun, even if it is yet another remake of an old (and classic) film:
No matter what, with that cast, it'll be entertaining. Nice to see Ann Margaret again, who still looks gorgeous, without obvious signs of plastic surgery.

Go see La La Land, folks.
It's seriously one of the most beautiful movies I've seen in years and I generally hate musicals. It's a charming throwback to 50's Old Hollywood, but still manages to feel fresh and modern, partly due to the natural charisma as Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone as the leads. The musical numbers are all good, especially if you're a jazz fan. It's definitely something that needs to be seen in theaters on a big screen to truly appreciate!

I just read that Disney is doing the Wrinkle in Time, I loved that book as a kid and I hope the movie is fun.

Looks like Legendary has acquired the movie and TV rights to Frank Herbert's Dune... Variety articleI know there is some mixed feelings about Dune among the sci-fi fans here, but I am hoping something exciting emerges out of this. It won't be Jodo cool, but maybe we'll get something of worth out of this. -M Brian Herbert tweeted today they have signed a director for this Dune reboot.. Denis Villeneuve, director of Sicario and Arrival, is now attached to the project. -M

Saw John Wick 2 yesterday. A true orchestrational movement of elegant violence it is. Spectacularly staged fights and gun fu styling with minimalist plot (not that it is needed or required) that shows how you can spend extra money wisely upon a sequel without ruining it. Superb guest appearances and everything just works in this fictional world of assassination's code of honor and rules. Cannot wait for part 3 to see how they solve and play it all out. Best scene in movie is Wick with the Somalia sampling his wares. Just a fun turn your mind off, enjoy the mayhem and fisticuffs and release your own angers. Wick epitomizes what many of us likely think and feel and wish we could really do in our own "work" lives.

Non-stop action, but it really never got tiring. And, yeah, the scene with the Sommelier was absolutely incredible. Super fun.

I must admit to being interested in The Great Wall which I'll see when it hits the multiplex.

Daniel Ragussis's Imperium just got on Netflix. It is always a pleasure to see Daniel Radcliffe, and here he plays an undercover agent investigating White Supremacist movements. It's a very tense movie, with little to no action, and it's all the scarier for it. I really enjoyed this slow-burning thriller, and how it avoids most of the clichés of the genre.

I haven't seen that. But I'm impressed by Radcliffe as an actor and the risks he's taken in his roles. I really liked The Young Doctor's Notebook.
