Not fans of his Inglourious Basterds I assume? It tackles a real life horror (arguably the world's greatest tragedy) and twists it with his exploitation style. I completely get why people don't like his style or that sub-genre of film and feel that it does appeal to an adolescent part of me. While killing Hitler in that film wasn't historically accurate it was shocking and I felt it was satisfying as a viewer.

Eh, I wouldn't equate a movie set in WWII as being the same as film about the Manson family. Basterds was a good war movie but it wasn't one concerned about actually capturing a particular historic moment; it was his version of the Dirty Dozen not his version of say Patton. If he's going to go into the Manson family I'd want it to be accurate in a way that Tarintino has never had to be before.

The Accountant (2016)
I watched this on HBO this weekend and was kind of underwhelmed by it. It wasn't bad by any means but I felt this wasn't as strong or as interesting as some of Affleck's other recent work like Argo and Gone Girl which I thought were both excellent films. I did think some of the casting was pretty good though and I enjoyed the ending.

This is weird I'm pretty sure I saw The Iron Giant, Freddy Krueger and the DeLorean from Back to the Future.

Watched some new movies on HBO this week as it was free. Keanu (2016) was funny despite the ridiculous premise plus the kitten was adorable. Neighbors 2 (2016)was a funny stoner comedy and on par with the original. I'm not likely to want to rewatch either though.

The Visit (2015) was okay and probably one of Shyamalan's more watchable movies. The kids were annoying but the old people were creepy. I felt there were some very real concepts used here. The kids dealing with their father leaving, their mother going off on a cruise and meeting their estranged grandparents who are showing signs of senility; all of which might have a psychological impact on their own. I felt the reveal about the old people was unexpected and it pretty much makes the movie.
I generally dislike found footage movies and think they're a hackneyed gimmick but still find some of them enjoyable like [•Rec] (2007) and its American counterpart Quarantine (2008). Within the last year or so I started watching the Paranormal Activity movies and I think I've seen them all. While I don't care for most of the acting there is a thread of story throughout the films I find interesting. There's a coven of witches using children to bring demons into the real world and open portals through time.

I haven't watched Baby Driver yet but the studio has made an extended preview available online and it looks pretty good.

Finally got to see Kong Skull Island this afternoon. Got it on DVD form the library. Enjoyed it quite a bit for what it was. I like Brie Larson and John C. Reilly in the film quite a bit. Hiddleston and Goodman were decent, but it felt like Samuel Jackson was phoning it in. Three Marvel vets and one Marvel up and comer in the movie. The action was good, the scenery/setting great and the mvoie kept the narrative moving along, so it was an enjoyable action/monster flick, and the post credit scene got me excited for what's to come.

It's one of the most fun experiences I've had with a monster movie in a while.

I'm a bit late, but I really enjoyed Spiderman Homecoming. The MCU really suits the character very well, and I'm glad Marvel and Sony worked it out. They did a really good job with it. A few things make you go hmmm, but just regular movie issues with suspension of disbelief stuff, no major missteps.
I haven't seen it, but I hear Baby Driver is excellent.

Finally saw War For the Planet of the Apes yesterday. It was okay...but by far the weakest entry of the new series. So many predictable moves and so many influences just worn out thereon the movie's figurative sleeve. And the ending, I thought, was incredibly weak.

Saw Dunkirk today and it's so darn realistic and down with class and dignity and it's a must see movie for all members that loves the history of World War II.
