Ta-daaaa...followed closely by all books to 1982.... ps I am always delighted to see books over 40 years looking as good as these... I'm not familiar with the weekly era, did I miss anything good?

It's hard to pick a favorite era. I love the old Golden Age issues, especially if there's a Mort Meskin "Vigilante" story, but I also like the Silver Age stuff. Anything drawn by the Swan/Klein team is automatically awesome, no matter how dumb the story they're illustrating. The Bronze Age issues are kind of hit-and-miss but if Maggin, Pasko or Wein are scripting it's worth a look. Post-Crisis, I liked much of the Byrne team-up material. Beyond that, I have almost no familiarity with the book.
Cei-U! I summon the ambivalence!

I like the late Bronze Age stuff from the early 80's, just before the post-Crisis Byrne revamp.

Same as Superman, the Silver Age. Supergirl was the backup feature for a decade.
I like the Bronze Age era too, but I didn't like it so much when I had to put with a Green Arrow or Human Target backup.
Roger Stern did a very good job back in the triangle era.
I also have to mention that it's very good right now with Greg Pak writing it.

The first two dozen issues or so. The only Superman I like is Siegel and Shuster's.

The first two dozen issues or so. The only Superman I like is Siegel and Shuster's. Yeah, those are great. I'm reading Volume Three of the Superman Chronicles right now, it reprints Action 21 to 25 and a couple of issues of Superman.
My second choice after the 1955 to 1965 era.

I didn't realize until I was looking over the run exactly how deep Roger Stern's run was on the title. Not counting a couple of fill-in issues, Stern's run spans Action # 600-700, which would be my favorite era. Just looking at Stern's stories, not including the other fill-in or features in Weekly, we have the big 50th anniversary issue to 641 and goes to 700 inclusively, missing only issues 658 by William-Messner Loebs, 666 by James Hudnall, 694 & 695 by Karl Kesel and characters Maxima as Supergirl, Maxima, Rampage, William Peyton Starman, Gangbuster, Brainiac, the Eradicator, Luthor, Vril Dox, Metallo, Dubbilex, Lord Satanus, Black Canary, Darkseid, Fire, Ice Maiden, Martian Manhunter, Metron, Orion, Power Girl, Aquaman, Dan Turpin, Firestorm, Lobo, Mr Miracle, Big Barda, Starfire, Kilowog, Bruno Mannheim, Batman, Slam Bradley, the Black Racer, Lady Blaze, Toyman, Plastic Man, Bibbo, Silver Banshee, Booster Gold, Cosmic Boy, the Spectre, Ted Knight Starman, Dr Mid-Nite, Dr Fate, Hawkman, Lightning Lad, Saturn Girl, Wesley Dodds Sandman, Chronos, Beppo, the Creeper, General Sam Lane, Thorn, Deadman, Parasite, Monarch, Waverider, the Hellgrammite, Draaga, Agent Liberty, Big Bear, Crimson Fox, Deathstroke, Elongated Man, Guardian, Metamorpho, Mon-El, Orion, Rocket Red, Serifan, Ted Kord Blue Beetle, Wally West Flash, Wonder Woman, Beautiful Dreamer, Shazam, Nightwing, Gold, Guy Gardner, Infinity Man, Iron, Lightray, Mark Moonrider, Platinum, Vykin, Hawk, Doomsday, Cyborg Superman, Mongul, Steel, Alan Scott Green Lantern, the Ray, Jade, Dr Occult, Bloodsport, Cauldron, Bizarro, Superboy, and one of the best supporting casts in comics from the Daily Planet staff, to Project Cadmus and the Kents. Artists included Curt Swan, George Perez, Brett Breeding, Dennis Janke, Keith Giffen, Kerry Gammill, Art Thibert, Bob McLeod, Dan Jurgens, Jerry Ordway, Jose Marzan Jr, Tom Grummett, Jim Mooney, Denis Rodier, Jon Bogdanove, Brad Vancata, Kieron Dwyer, Butch Guice, Dusty Abell, Terry Austin, Ed Hannigan, Steve Leialoha, Norman Felchle, James Pascoe and Murphy Anderson. All of that wraps up to be one of my favorite overall runs of all time. Not worth big money in the price guide, or famous except for the Death of Superman, but this run hits all cylinders in my opinion. I've gone back and re-read parts of this again and again.

I like the late Bronze Age stuff from the early 80's, just before the post-Crisis Byrne revamp. Me too. Basically my favourite era of Action is the era when I was a kid and picking up random issues.

No love for Finger and Kane's outrageously demented Clip Carson? The guy who chortles in glee after massacring a roomful of Arabs? The art improved when Sheldon Moldoff took over but it lost its "I can't believe I just read that" edge in the process. Cei-U! I summon the racist nutbag!
