I noticed that a few of the stores in our area are not selling back issues any more . And are becoming more specialized . Some are strictly current issues and will special order from preview books . The shop I go to regularly is expanding his back issues section to clear out his back room . If it not on display cant sell it . He has many pull list customers and only orders a few extra issues for walk ins . Also sell board games and statues etc . I try to support him and if something is priced a little high than box store usually will come close to price . Picked up some Carcassonne games and Axis and Allies . I think they will be around for a long time .

Well, I live in Manila, not New York. And having been to New York, I think I can say with some authority that we're, um... uh... ....friendlier. But the chain I shop in, it's pretty awesome. The owner is on a first name basis with all his customers, goes out of his way to make everyone feel welcome. Just this week, they and the bookstore they're partnered up with are holding Batman Day, with contests and giveaways and everything. There are periodic sales all year round and they go out of their way to do things like bring in foreign artists, like Charlie Adlard and David Finch, even though there really is no way they're losing money with these -- the plane tickets alone could not be compensated with any number of reasonable sales. In the past year, the shop owner offhandedly said to me that he had a lot of comics that weren't resellable, because they had writing or were torn, or whatever, so he just ended up throwing them away because they were just taking up space in his house, which was cramped as it was (he at times invites customers to his house as well, especially if force majeures keep deliveries from getting to the stores), so I said, "Don't throw them away. Just give them to me." So he's started doing that too, and I've been able to read comics I never thought I'd get my hands on. And since it's a family-run business, it's impossible not to know everyone. I walk into any branch and the clerks just flash a big smile and say "HI DUY!" and then give me my stuff. It's just wonderful. You live in MANILA!!?!!
I used to live there too. I have been to many pleasant comics shops there. Unfortunately, I saw many branches just "disappear" over the years. I used to think that it was hard to travel through cities to get to my "lcs"...until I moved to Cebu. Now I pretty much have to buy digitally. Upon occasion I get to visit Manila and always enjoy visiting a good comics shop.

Let's me to put in my 2 Cents in.
In my area, there's only two stores available one that my good friend Jeff runs and another one is 35 minutes away, the one that my good friend Jeff store is 20 minutes away. I go to that one pretty much every Friday AM to read books for a good hour or two either by renting them and buying them as I choose to.
Having said that, about 15-20 years ago - I used to see 10 Comic Books Stores and now it's down to 2. The store that's 35 minutes away is thinking about closing it's doors in a year or two because business isn't all that cracked up to be and the parking is downright horrible.
It's sad to see them go, and digital sales are going up, nothing but up ... and being old-schooled like myself I prefer the old fashioned comic book over the digital any day of the week but I fear that someday I might not see a printed comic book anymore and that's could happen in my lifetime.
Back to my friend Jeff, he has two sons and they will continue this business after he retire in two years and my love for a printed comic book is 20 minutes away.

Some excellent comments , Doctor Fate and Earth 2 Flash . Do you think that us old school collectors are a dying breed ? That maybe out collection may be out to date in a generation or two . I tossed this thought around in my head for a while and sometimes think about getting rid of my collection sooner than later . But always put it on the back burner .
