If I had every comic book related book I wanted, I'd need a house and shelving the size of a public library.

ERIC POWELL'S THE GOON CHINATOWN Artist's Edition Recommended Closeout Price! Since debuting in 1999, The Goon has won constant critical praise as well as a large and rabid fan base for creator Eric Powell. This beautiful artist's edition features the Goon original graphic novel, Chinatown and the Mystery of Mr. Wicker, which earned Powell two Eisner Awards! Also: 27 more pages of preliminary studies and full penciled pages from Chinatown, and both hard and soft covers. Much of the material here was actually painted in full color, unlike the more typical Artist’s Editions which feature primarily black & white artwork (albeit scanned in full color). Each page of this artist's edition was scanned under close supervision by Powell himself to ensure the finest reproduction possible of his delicate original art--many pages of which were in color washes and sepia tones as storytelling devices, which only adds to the beauty of the originals. Publisher: IDW, 2015 Binding: Hardcover without dustjacket Dimensions: 12X17 Pages: 144pg Color: black and white ISBN: #9781631403460 Published at $125.00 On Sale! Save $40! Your price: $85.00

JERRY ROBINSON Ambassador of Comics By N.C. Christopher Couch. Introduction by Pete Hamill. Closeout Price! Sale-priced 2010 edition, with signed bookplate!Robinson is a legend of American comics. An original member of the Batman team, his creations include the Joker and Robin (with writer Bill Finger), and some of the most creative covers and story artwork of the 1940s. His other creations include London (Boy Comics), Jet Scott and Atoman, one of the first “atomic” superheroes. Jerry passed away in 2011, but before he died he signed these bookplates. Robinson, much like Will Eisner, was an early innovator and one of the best creators in the Golden Age. His work with Mort Meskin on The Black Terror (shown here) took a badly drawn hero to entirely new creative heights in the late 1940s. His stories for Stan Lee’s Atlas (Marvel) comics, from war to crime, were among the best to appear there...he certainly had all the skills necessary, from panel innovation to storytelling, to have been an EC Comics mainstay--if things had worked out differently. Robinson also branched out into fine arts, commercial illustration and academia. This fully illustrated collection was written in collaboration with the artist himself. It is packed with Golden Age and Silver Age artwork and insights. Among 30 other books, he wrote one of the earliest ABOUT comics: The Comics: An Illustrated History of Comic Strip Art, 1974, revised in 2011 by Jerry and published by Dark Horse. Filled with extremely rare original artwork (he saved much of his best Golden Age work, particularly for Batman, which appears here) along with lots of special material never before collected. Jerry was a frequent curator and consultant (including to DC Comics in the 2000s). In 2004 he produced the first in-depth exhibition of the genre, The Superhero: The Golden Age of Comic Books 1939 --1950 at the Breman Museum, Atlanta (which was excellent: I saw it). In 2006, Robinson curated the exhibition, The Superhero: Good and Evil in American Comics, at the Jewish Museum in New York. Out of print Publisher: Abrams, 2010 Binding: Hardcover with dustjacket Dimensions: 9x12 Pages: 224pg Color: Full Color throughout ISBN: #9780810977648 Published at $35.00 On Sale! Save $18! Your price: $17.50

JOE KUBERT ENEMY ACE Artist's Edition By Robert Kanigher. Art by Joe Kubert. Highly Recommended Almost Gone! In 1968, Kanigher and Kubert launched a new kind of war book, one that showed military conflicts from the other side: the enemy side. Thought by many to be Kubert's most powerful work, Enemy Ace told the story of a World War I flyer who had a keen sense of honor and deep-rooted nobility, plus a deadly talent for shooting down American and English biplanes, bombers and surveillance balloons. Together they humanized the face of a German Ace, a grim, lonely man who hated war and death, but nonetheless was obeying his orders and fighting for his country. And doing it extraordinarily well, with the sense of honor and fair play that pervaded WWI aerial combat--it is fascinating to see it played out here. Kubert took this new concept and rose to the challenge. His story-telling and panel work is extraordinary, doing the kind of work you might expect only from a Neal Adams or a Jim Steranko. He was pushing the envelope, creating dramatic and exciting stories like nothing comics had seen before. Today Enemy Ace remains one of Kubert's great achievements. This large sized volume of original artwork, reproduced in full color in order to capture every blue pencil note and correction and pencil line, collects Star Spangled War Stories #139-142 and 144. Added bonuses include a “Firehair” centerspread from Tomahawk #131, six fascinating cover roughs, including prelims for Showcase #57 and #58, the first Enemy Ace try-out issues. And a Sgt. Rock #14 cover, guest starring Enemy Ace. Some with color (one is pictured here). Publisher: IDW, 2014 Binding: Hardcover without dustjacket Dimensions: 12x17 Pages: 152pg Color: black and white ISBN: #9781613778449 Published at $125.00 On Sale! Save $26! Your price: $99.00

Twomorrows has a number of their Modern Masters books on sale. These books are always at least a very interesting read and a great insight into the work of some great modern artists. Of those on sale I've read the volumes covering Charles Vess, Chris Sprouse, Kevin Maguire and Jeff Smith and highly recommend each of them. twomorrows.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=135
