CBR articleDarwyn's wife announced via his facebook page that Darwyn is undergoing treatment and battling an aggressive form of cancer. I'd like ot add my thoughts and prayers for him and his family as they battle this and hope and pray for the best. Hopefully the doctors can find a way to help him beat this thing...  if only... -M

I just posted this on Facebook.
"This is truly awful news. Cooke is one of a handful of creators whose work I will always read (except Before Watchmen). If I had the power I'd happily just give him the DCU and let it be his personal playground for my amusement. And his adaptations of the Parker Novels are the gold standard for comic adaptations."
Here's hoping he is able to battle back.

One of my favorite artists and one of the most talented and I wish all the best as he battle his cancer. We just can't afford to lose this talent - it will be a tremendous blow to the comic book community.

Really sorry to hear this. The fact that they have moved to pallative care is not encouraging; that treats the symptoms rather than the illness in an attempt to provide relief from pain and improve quality of life. Big bummer. |

Oh, no. This is awful news. I am so fond of his New Frontier because of the well balanced mixture of joy and realism he brought to it.

This was all over Twitter. The palliative care care is for pain but I understand he can still receive treatment for the Cancer itself. Prayer can help.

This totally Saddened and pissed me off to hear. He's easily in my top list of creators and I'd buy anything he does. He's simply brilliant. I pray for he and his family.
I'm also aware artist Sal Valluto has also just been diagnosed. I don't know how dire his situation is compared to mr. Cooke's, but it's just awful regardless. He's always appeared as a sweet man. Bless the them both.

Ed Brubaker just posted some tweets that Darwyn Cooke has passed away (seeing RIP tweets from friends of his), but no confirmation from official soucres yet. That would be quite a shock if all of this happened so quickly (sadly I've seen it before too often).

Ed Brubaker just posted some tweets that Darwyn Cooke has passed away (seeing RIP tweets from friends of his), but no confirmation from official soucres yet. That would be quite a shock if all of this happened so quickly (sadly I've seen it before too often). I saw a similar tweet from Mike Allred but its gone now. If Mr. Cooke is still I alive I wish him the best, and if not than my wishes are sincerely with his family and friends as there is no doubt in my mind that a guy who create such wondrous stories as he did must have been a terrific person to know. |
