Decided against the Scarlet Witch book as the writing didn't really grab me in the sample I read online. Beautiful artwork by Vanesa del Rey in that first issue, though. Can anyone recommend anything else by this artist? It's the first I ever heard of her. Check out the two noir minis she did for BOOM Studios called Hit and Hit 1957 (Hit was called Hit 1955 when it was collected). I loved her art so much on it I ordered one of the Pen and Ink editions of the first mini (kind of like a more affordable version of the artist's editions that IDW does). I don't know if she's done anything else for the big 2 though. -M

Thanks mrp, I'll probably try that one if I see it around. The covers don't appeal to me that much, though they aren't bad - I wonder if someone else did them or was it del Rey? But I did a quick image-search and the interior art looks great. I don't know this writer, but I think I'll have to try at least the first book just for the artwork.

The author has written some non-fiction stuff on 1950s Los Angles, the corruption there, the police, etc. that makes up the background for the series, but I think this is his first comics work. I bought the first mini in singles and the covers for each issue are better than the trade covers. I missed the sec ond mini when it came out, so unless I find the singles at a show this summer, I'll pick up the trade here soon, but I adored he first series. -M
