I have DC Comics Presents #26 At this point, you could probably sell that and buy a new house with the proceeds.

Oh wow, I got my copy for.. what.. 15 bucks when I was seriously collecting team-up books 9-10 years ago. Didn't know it really took off.

Damn. It might have been more than 15 - I was really trying to buy all my team-up books from actual people, never online. I'm sure it was less than 20 or I'd remember such a huge outpouring of cash. It's interesting that the Titans are the most high-profile they've ever been, 50 years after their debut and 30-some-odd years after NTT #1.

I had no idea that book was worth so much. I paid 50 cents for my copy. I probably still have it hanging around somewhere.

Mine came out of somebody's dollar box maybe fifteen years ago.
Cei-U! Their loss is my gain!

'regular' copies seem to be close to $100 for high grade.. to $30-40 for readers copies...not as much as I would have guessed.. there are quite a few moving on ebay (a whole page of sold items in December) #1 of the regular series seems to run about 1/2 that, and #2 (1st Deathstroke) in the same range.

So the fun of reviewing the Rozakis Teen Titans run and the Rozakis Batman Family run at the same time is when we get to moments where the two intersect. Two matters of interest to this review thread surfaced in my review of Batman Family #11 that I thought I'd repost here: Additionally, Robin has been cracking really terrible, awkwardly timed jokes in the pages of Teen Titans since issue #46, and Rozakis finally takes time to explain what that's been about: It's an extremely awkward and poorly executed attempt at characterization, but I at least appreciate the effort, as well as the consistency across titles. Now you can easily explain this one away: She could have already been eight or nine when her dad first developed his hatred of her ("Since the day I was born" being a figure of speech), or perhaps he was always obsessed with numbers and that was merely exacerbated by his accident. But Wolfman will steal this logic in the future moment codystarbuck already showed us in the Batman Family thread:

As for how far I'll take the reviews, who knows? Ideally, I'd go to Graduation Day, after which the Teen Titans are a totally different team, but I may not have the patience to go that far. Lots and lots of lackluster work before getting to that point. No one can blame you if you decide to stop reviewing at some point. Like The Captain's Captain America review thread, its already been a monumental effort to chronicle the stories and creative decisions behind a title, and its appreciated. However, if The Teen Titans reaches a point where there's a one...two year run (or more) of poor stories, or editorial / directives that effectively killed a series (I have my own view on when that happened as I was faithfully collecting TNTT in the 80s), at that point, you would be reviewing for a historical / completist reason, and not for enjoyment, and that should never be lost ( if it can be helped) in looking back at old titles.

Sometimes, charting the progression of a series (even when it's a downward progression) can be its own fun for me. I've had threads where I've truly enjoyed trekking through the bad issues, as well as runs where it became an absolute chore. The true challenge for me is that, after The Judas Contract, I'm not sure anything that happens in the pages of the New Teen Titans, New Titans, and The Titans actually matters later on. It all just seem to get forgotten or undone down the road. So, if it isn't enjoyable, and it doesn't matter, what's the point? So we shall see when we get there. Got quite a while to go before that becomes an issue, of course!

Partially in anticipation of this thread reaching New Teen Titans, I used a gift card to by the New Teen Titans vol. 1 TPB. I was actually only missing one issue included in the TPB, but it's the ridiculously expensive NTT #2. I have the DC Comics Presents story from when it was reprinted in an issue of Tales of the New Teen Titans.

Been missing doing these. We should be getting to the new thread by March.

I want to complete the series, but I haven't gotten around to it. Part of that's because I was missing a couple really expensive ones. The forthcoming reviews were motivation to fill the gaps. I also bought an issue of the Silver Age series - Teen Titans #25.

I also bought an issue of the Silver Age series - Teen Titans #25. #25-27 make up arguably the most quality (though controversial) stretch of the original run. Great purchase!

I'm not sure anything that happens in the pages of the New Teen Titans, New Titans, and The Titans actually matters later on. Eh, I don't think superhero comics ever matter at all, really. And from a continuity and worldbuilding standpoint, 98% of superhero books are future-irrelevant. Do we remember the seventh time Iron Man fought the Mandarin? But any given stretch of issues can tell you about the time it was written, give you an overview of the pop culture landscape - comic specific and beyond - and tell you something about the psychology of it's creators. And I've read very little Titans between the Judas Contract and Young Justice (I freaking love Young Justice!) there might be some interest in the increasing desperation as the book fades from popularity post-Crisis.
