I'm waiting for the review of the issue that featured a character that was made white because some editor was an ass. That's a long way off, but I'm sure looking forward to discussing it. Even after that point, when they added Mal, I love how they always managed to keep him off of the portion of the cover that showed all the team members' smiling white faces...

I Remember thinking it was really funny that the Titans had 'Secret Files' when they'd only existed for like 6 months. Two years, actually. There was a lot of time elapsed between their first few appearances, and after that, the Teen Titans title was bi-monthly. I keep thinking someone's marching up to Haney's desk and saying "This month the Titans are going to talk up this aspect of the U.S. Government so that kids will respect Uncle Sam, got it?" So I have no idea why the Olympics, in particular, was pitched, but I get the sense it wasn't Haney's idea.

It's only 1 year exactly between BnB 60 (which, as you correctly point out, should be the real first appearance) and the Olympic issue, and it's not like the DCU was in real time (was it?). I didn't think about it, but kinda funny that had a 'secret file' from a time before they existed.

Keep in mind, Crimebuster introduced the grade of "H" for any Bob Haney stories that meet a certain level of Haneyness. Use it if needed. I think I need a working definition for "Haneyness," if for no other reason than a good laugh I may do a "Haney Themed" review on his Super Sons stories from World's Finest!

I hope to finish my reviews on Tec #469-479 (Englehart/Rogers) in the next week. Trying to decide whether to do Stern/Bryne Capt America or Haney's Super Sons (with Dick Dillin on art) next....

Do you mean the side panel that displayed the Titans' full length figures? To be fair, Lilith wasn't included there either, evidently the side panel just showcased the costumed heroes (even if they werem't wearing their superhero togs in the stories for a while), capitalizing on the recognizability factor I assume. But even leaving the side panel aside, it is telling--and disappointing--just how infrequently Mal appeared on the cover, even when he was an integral part of the interior story. Back then I'd read an issue of TT here and there but it was never a must-buy for me...not until Mal and Lilith joined the team. Then it finally began to get interesting and became one of my favorite DC books.

When they added Mal and Lilith to the team ... it's changes the dynamics of the team and that alone made it more unique and definitely interesting like you said earlier!

Then it finally began to get interesting and became one of my favorite DC books. They really added to the team dynamic immensely. I got that Wolfman and Perez wanted to do their own thing when they brought the book back (and also distance themselves from the '70s run), but I regret that Mal and Lilith didn't have a place on the new team, even as ancillary cast. Mal did come back for the amazing Secret Origins Annual #3, but that was all. And Lilith came back for a brief while, right? I don't remember now.

I checked and yes, apparently Lilith returned later on. I'm basing this on what I see online, as this would have been years after I stopped reading comics due to various factors such as spotty distribution capped by a family move to a neighborhood without any candy stores or similar stores that sold comics ...my comics-buying just faded away... In retrospect, the TT comics--at the time Mal and Lilith first appeared and for about a year after--were among the last comics I bought at the time they were published.
