I was hanging out with a couple friends watching random Star Trek episodes on Netflix over the weekend. We watched the TOS episode "Lights of Zetar", the TNG episodes Nth Degree and Timescape and the DS9 episode in which Thomas Riker steals the Defiant (I don't know the episode title off the top of my head). In the TOS episode, when Lt Romaine starts getting visions of the future, Scotty completely dismisses it, saying "It's just space. That's all it is. Just space." From then on, whenever anything weird happens in the other episodes, my friends and I were of course saying "It's just space" in bad Scottish accents. Sisco and Odo telling Dukat how Riker has a transporter clone? Dukat should just say "That's just space" in a sing-songy Scottish brogue. Pockets of temporal anomalies? That's just space. Barclay starts to show signs of becoming a super-genius? Space.

So Beyond is actually getting pretty solid reviews from both mainstream critics and hardcore Trekkies. Could this new movie actually be...good?!

I really liked it. Don't want to say too much... That's good to hear. Those early trailers didn't give me much hope, but it looks like it was just bad marketing.

Just seen it...
It appears that with the new series, the odd-numbered movies are the good ones!
Great ride, and I had a much better time than I anticipated! The writers and directors understood that what makes this franchise work is the characters.

The new series has a name and ship (based I think on some unused Ralph McQuarrie concept art)
Star Trek: Discovery

I felt like cheering!

So heard a rumor today at the con I was at that Paramount has worked out a deal with Netflix for them to air episodes of the new series Discovery a few days after they debut on the CBS stream network (whatever it's called). Has anyone heard any official word on this or any articles discussing the possibility? It would be great if it's true (I really don't want to subscribe to another service, but I am interested in seeing the new series.

In USA & Canada CBS All Access is the only way to view legally.
