Calling Pat Boone a beatnik is like calling Ted Nugent a rapper. But I love the cover. Of course I was just having everyone on. Not being able to find a Ferlinghetti # 1 in the DC catalog in which " Lawrence tells his story" or the revelation of "Ginsburg's pin-ups" I just figured on taking what I could get . But i love that cover too PH! I had a few other covers lined up but I think, as they were more of a feather with the hippie kind I'd pass on them. There are actually lots of hippie covers out there, and while the distance between hippie and beatnik is rather slighter than that between Boone and Bukowski I figure I'd respect the Beats and not conflate them with the 60's long hairs of another generation. Hah! Ferlinghetti#1! I love it! Allen Ginsburg and the Howling Howlers! Endsville, baby!

Archie story "Like Real Gone", from 1959...not on the cover, unfortunately.

Surely, everyone knows what a flapper is? That whole 1920s look is timeless, classic. And ept in the public consciousness by any number of movies and TV shows set in that period, like Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries or Upstairs, Downstairs. I've never been sure what a beatnik was, I think I just assumed it was an American term for a young person in the sixties. Nice to know that Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries is known outside of Australia. Yeah, it's available here in the States. Good show, and the books are fun too.

I'm a fan of both the books and the show. The show is quite popular here in Australia, but I had no idea how it was doing overseas.

Ish Kabbible for me. I'm still not clear on this whole beatnik thing, but it's a charmingly ridiculous cover.
