I never thought about it again until the last year or so when I saw somebody (maybe at this site) talking about the project and why it never happened. Any reasonable explanation? I don't remember the details. I think Miller got the chance to do something he really wanted to do and quit the Doctor Strange project before it even got started. Ronin maybe?

That's the thing, in 1981 he was already doing DD. Granted, he just then started writing it, but it wasn't a whole new project.

THIS ! I didn't get much from CrossGen, but respected their creative talent enormously and really, really wanted to buy this book. Amazing to me that no one else took the idea and ran with it, but, I can understand what with Charlie Hebdo and all. Beautiful Greg Land cover Would've been written by Chuck Dixon, one of the most macho creators in the industry !

They mention Marshall Rogers in the account of the Miller Strange and why it didn't happen. It's funny, I'm a big fan of Marshall Rogers's work but I don't like it that much on Doctor Strange. The style didn't seem right, for some reason. Of course, I didn't like Roger Stern's writing that much on the title either - not that it was particularly bad, just that it was such a let-down after the Englehart run.

Vixen was first set to appear in August 1978 in her own comic. Here's a half-page ad from that summer. She even got the front page headline in August's Daily Planet paper - However, the book was cancelled at the last minute as part of the Dc Implosion. Check out that Hembeck strip, published shortly before the 1978 Superman movie. Wonder Woman had her own TV series going at the time. Clearly, she felt entitled to a bit more celebrity glamour.

A James Bond project? Luckily, we got DD instead. As for DS, I liked Rogers more than Stern, actually. Uncle Rog is probably my favourite "classic" writer, but it took him quite so time to tune in to the character.

If I remember correctly, there was another Chuck Dixon Crossgen title announced at the same time. Raven House, a gothic horror story.

Oh ! That sounds good too.
Passed on the Sigilverse, but some of their other titles, like Route 666, Way of the Rat, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and Brath were really good.

This ad doesn't really reflect the Doc Savage book at ultimately appeared. Which is a shame, 'cause it looks pretty interesting.
