In addition to those who died young, I also think about those whose career in comics seemed to have disappeared during the Golden Age ever though they themselves lived on (sometimes even into the 21st century).
Lou Fine left comics in 1944 and passed away in 1971. He could have drawn for Marvel during the Silver Age, EC during the 50's, I'm sure DC could have found something for him to do, but no, he went off into advertising and that was that.

Imagine Fine on the Phantom Stranger in the 50s or a revival of Plastic Man after DC took it over from Quality, or Blackhawk, or any of the SF or mystery titles...

Fine seems to have gone for a blander, more generic style in that strip. That *was* his style once he left Quality for advertising. He never did anything like his "Black Condor" or "Ray" strips again. Of course he also made a s#!tpot more money drawing in that later style... Cei-U! I summon the corporate vibe!
