I saw Forbidden Planet again for the first time in many years at a local cinema a few months ago and one thing that impressed me and that I didn't remember from watching it on tv as a child, was the electronic music score. Very nice and I intend to find the soundtrack on cd.

Autobots transform and roll out! These words from Optimus Prime echo within my head still all these many years later in to my adult life and captivated me in my youth. Transforming robots who go from mimicking human anatomy and change into vehicles and weapons and animals. And some can combine together to create larger robots! What more do you need to draw you into this world of cybernetic life from another world intermingling with us here on Earth? A long running comic book series, big Hollywood movies and being products on the toy aisles since 1984. Whether your love is for the Hasbro toys, the Japanese toy versions, the cartoon series or the current movies the adventures of giant transforming robots has become one of the most recognized icons around the world. From the cartoons i still hear the voices of Prime, Grimlock, Starscream and Megatron in my head. The unique transforming interlock sound has become cell phone message notices and blasts from the big screen in its glorious blaring change. There is just so much coolness wrapped up within these robots which speaks to their designs and longevity and continuing adventures. Love me some Transformers

Let us soar the cosmic spaceways with the Silver Surfer! No matter the version of this Herald of Galactus you may enjoy, there is something special about our silver encased star soaring individual. Whether you 1st saw his classic powerful image from Kirby soaring above the New York Skyline or it was the Buscema regally imposed exile wandering the upper stratosphere of earth or you found the sleekly shimmering surfer of Roger's or Lim in the universe does not matter. All you need to know is gleamed (pun intended) from this lonely, sorrowful perpetual wanderer of the cosmos. A simple addition by Kirby in thinking that a great and powerful force as Galactus would have a herald declare his coming presence it was soon enough that the Surfer himself became the more popular force in the comic books he inhabited. His nobility combined with his rebellion against his "master" soon made this alien all the more human to us readers. His design so simple and seemingly natural translating a surfer of the sea into a a surfer of the vast starry skies. To this day the Surfer speaks of the wonders and joys to be found in all there is in the world and the possibilities of what is out there beyond the stars. Just a random question- Would it make a difference if Stan Lee came up with the idea of the Silver Surfer and not Kirby ?

To be honest, i think it was truly a combination of Lee and Kirby that made the Surfer so iconic. Kirby tended to throw a lot into a story and sometimes they were full blown developed and other times they were almost throw away that he remembered little of or forgotten why he created/placed them there. in this instance it feels like both made major contributions to developing the Surfer.

This week I dive deep below the ocean on a voyage to the bottom! I had a toy of the Seaview submarine from Voyage to the Bottom of the sea and it was just the coolest thing ever. Bright yellow with a trap door in the front where a mini flying sub would drop out. For years this toy colored my remembrance of the Seaview having me believe it was yellow even when having grown up watching the series in repeats i knew the dang thing was grey! Funky how memories work, because i had that toy on a shelf for years and guess it imprinted itself into me.
But i adored the design and sleekness of Admiral Nelson's underwater laboratory shooting all around the ocean's of the world. Next to the 66 Batmobile and Enterprise it is easily one of the most iconic and very recognizable ships in the world. Add in the small two man flying sub and it was just the coolest vehicle around at the time. And who didn't dream of being a deep sea diver in their swimming pool in the summer with their Seaview toys?

Seaview Submarine
I used to have one and it's was stolen by a teenage brat that I tried to get back without much luck at all. I had it for a month and it's was gone and my parents wouldn't buy me another one - and took it as lesson learned.

It was a cheaply made toy. The bottom bay door hinges to hold in the Mini Flying Sub broke really quickly and i had to end up using hot-glue to one of the bay doors to keep it closed. After awhile the other bay door broke and i ended up just removing both. On the plus side it helped the Seaview to DIVE really fast when i used it to play with in a neighbors swimming pool
