If I had no one who would take them in my family, I would probably sell and give my kids the money. I would hope a few would be passed on though.
If I have nobody at all (unlikely but you never know), I would consider mailing them to unsuspecting people like yourself or others in the comics community.

It's just paper, after all. Plus, most of all the comics published are worthless or near to it. But my wife is talking me out of the burning solution. I always pictured myself in a funeral pyre , like in Conan , and the books being tossed on top of me. I liked this cause I understand. My family is half Danish and my dad put that image in my mind as a child about a Viking funeral. Growing up on the family farm, having been in the family roughly 130 years now, and we frequently had bonfires, big, big bonfires, as at one point around World War I, part of the acreage was a tree farm. We kept the property clean, thus picking up branches, as well as dropping, cutting, and splitting trees and logs. Some would go to bonfires, some we would load the pickup full and go into town to sell. Yes, sort of a primal cremation technique. If I weren't going to have my body parts sold off, I'd look into having this done instead. Not sure of the legalities, but I suspect if a member of the family wanted it done, as long as they properly contained the fire, they could.

The more I think about Kan-Man's story, the more upset I get. This has been on my mind a lot today. I haven't replied until now because I don't really have anything interesting to add, but this has stayed with me. Mankind can be so disappointing sometimes. I've been heavily considering setting up at local conventions. I have about 700 books to unload from my collection, as well as a ton of toys, and figure all I really need is shelving, the patience to deal with customers, and the will to make it all happen. I think I could fit everything into my car with enough creativity.

Yup, it was a rep sent by Lone Star. Wasn't aware there were any other options with them. I am thinking of complaining to the company, though. They should know who's representing them. Hoping you're the same Kan-Man who used to be a regular here. If so, welcome back! If you're not, and you're half as nice a guy as the Earth-1 Kan-Man was, we've lucked out. PS: Why doesn't your story surprise me? Sorry for that experience.

I wrote a letter of complaint to the head of Lone Star today and it made me feel a little better. I wanted to stress to him that it wasn't the offer necessarily, which of course was insulting, but the whole bait and switch approach to what led up to the offer. It was all over-promise and under-deliver where it should have been the other way around. All the best to you, whatever you decide. I tried selling at a convention a few times years ago. The market and the business has changed a ton since then so I couldn't offer any advice, but I can promise you'll get some great stories out of the experience.

I'm sorry it's been so long since I stopped by - this was always one of the most welcoming places around. By the way, my wife and I took the kids to Cooperstown a couple of weeks back and had a great time. It was their first trip up there and I hadn't been since the Expos were still around. Hope you're doing well and thanks for the kind words.

One of my 2 jobs is working in a toy store and I keep getting a guy that calls EVERYDAY asking if we have Pokémon Go Watches. It really gets annoying after awhile. No i dont know when we are getting them in again. Stupid Pokémon.

Wow that site is crushing my soul. Look at these tragedies! Some of these "donations" do look fake or seem hard to believe. I know there are a lot of people out there that end up with a deceased person's possessions or have no interest in such a collection and they get rid of them this way, but wow. The site must be doing well though considering they offer free vacation vouchers and have a customer service staff available via chat or 1-800 number. Looks like you can donate pretty much anything to them, from comics to cars to jewelry to boats and then some. I like codystarbucks idea though, of donating directly to the source. Well done sir!

When I looked into it in the past, I decided I was going to donate to the Boys and Girls Clubs.

I sold a small comic book collection last year to Lone Star/MyComicShop.com. It is a fairly easy system to use, you register on their site, list your comics and they have a set price based on the condition. After listing your comics they send you an email accepting your offer, you then mail the comics to them. Sounds simple, right? After they received my comics they then regrade them and send you a counter offer & the sad part is that they always downgrade your comics so that they do not have to pay you the originally agreed upon amount. In my case I had strictly graded NM/VF comics (& I grade like a pro)...so sad that they knocked down almost every comic book to a lower grade. This was my one & ONLY time doing business with them. On a positive note, if you do not agree with their offer you can ask them to send back any or all of your comics.

On a positive note, if you do not agree with their offer you can ask them to send back any or all of your comics. I've done over 100 sales with mycomicshop.com, and for the most part I've been happy with the results. I have learned that it's best to be conservative with your grading, because they do grade pretty tough. Best not to grade any book NM, or you'll probably be disappointed. But they do grade some books NM, and also upgrade the books you send quite frequently. Whatever they grade a comic is also how they list it, so it doesn't really benefit them to downgrade your books. There is also an option for the better books in a collection to either put them in their monthly auction or set the price as a consignment. It takes a little time to enter your books into the database, and they will only want some of them, but you would probably get a pretty big initial order and several more in a quick span of time. After all the hot books are gone, you can check periodically to see if enough issues have built up again for another sale, and eventually they will mostly be gone. You'll make closer to what you wanted than what you were offered. Also, the offers fluctuate depending on demand, so if they only offer .15 for a common comic one day, that doesn't mean you have to sell it for that. If you wait, chances are good that it will go up a good bit. PM me if you want to know any details or have questions. It's a pretty good thing, though. I always have an order working with my extra books that I send for store credit, and have been happy with most of my deals.

I had only graded 2 books in NM condition and there was no doubt about the condition, 1 book they even downgraded to a VF- which was absolutely ridiculous! Others I graded in VF were actually closer to NM but were downgraded to F/F+ & had just a few VG comics that they downgraded to a G+. I have collected comics for decades and grade conservatively, even the tiniest flaw I will knock down the grade accordingly. I take blame for not investigating Lone Star practices before dealing with them. After the fact I have come across so many people online with similar complaints & the complaints far outweigh the good experiences. I have had no experience with purchasing back issues from them but have heard they are not so picky about condition of comics when they are selling to customers!
