I'm intrigued by the idea of fans making their own custom action figures, but it's not something that I personally have the time or inclination to do. However, I do really enjoy looking at other people's efforts online. Here's a custom made figure of Jaxxon the green space-rabbit from the old Marvel Star Wars comics, complete with old school packaging... ...

I added a few pictures of my new custom project to my thread over on the Dojoboard (I really gotta figure out how to get Photobucket working so I can post these here). I think it turned out pretty good.

Well once you post it there, you can link to it here via the photo function.. the downside is it draws bandwidth form the site not photobucket. -M

I used to do crude but surprisingly good work with masking tape and electrical tape when it came to altering action figures. I remember being taken by the green Guardsman armor from Iron Man comics, so I modified my DC Super Powers Green Lantern figure to look just like him with masking tape and green markers. I didn't mark on the figure at all, and when I got tired of the Guardsman armor and wanted to get back to Green Lantern, I simply took the tape off. As far as I knew, I was the only kid in the history of toys to think of doing this. Pre-internet bliss.

I'm working on making my damaged Mezco Punisher into a custom figure. I was looking for a trench coat, so I found a 1/6 scale suit coat I wasn't using and cut the sleeves off. It's a bit too bulky, but I think it looks OK. I'll probably use a Nick Fury head on the finished figure, but I haven't decided yet.

My Nick Fury custom project is finished: The coat is the 1/6 suit coat I mentioned in the last post, and the head is a Toybiz Marvel Legends Nick Fury head modified to fit the neck peg.

One of the Mezco Punisher figures originally included a balaclava head like the Marvel Now design, but that was canceled from the final product, so I made my own. It's made from a 1/6 scale figure's sock. I cut out eyeholes, painted the Punisher emblem, and it was done. I'm planning to start a more complicated project tomorrow. Stay tuned...

A few new things today... I made a backpack for Punisher out of another figure's web gear. I also painted a TMNT van to be used either as a Punisher van or a random vehicle. It's a bit too cartoony, but I kinda like it.

Here's my latest custom figure: This is loosely based on the Punisher's costume in modern comics. The base figure is the Marvel Legends Walgreen's Exclusive Punisher. The shoulder harness is from that figure, just slightly modified (I removed the strap connecting the two sides so the skull could be seen more clearly). The utility belt is from Mezco's Punisher figure. The pants are from classictvtoys.com. I started by painting the base figure's boots and gloves black. Then I modified the shoulder harness, trimmed the pants (they were originally intended for 8" figures), and added those. As I was doing all this, I was working on another thing too. I had two of the same head from the Marvel Legends Punisher figure, so I modified one to be used as a gas mask head. I originally sanded and painted a DCC Court of Owls mask, but it was too bulky. I decided to just paint the mask directly onto the head. I sanded the mouth and chin a little bit so it would be flatter and easier to glue on later, and then applied the paint. The grey parts of the mask are LEGO pieces attached with glue. Once those were on, I was done. Anyway, thanks for reading!

I've always loved the idea of custom action figures. Never really had a lot of them growing up and the ones that I did have were few in number compared to all the Happy Meal Toys I had Have been considering doing one of Sandy Hawkins from JSA in kind of his para-military outfit and gas mask. Found some old toy line/cartoon from the 90's called "Monster Force" that seems to have just the right idea

My latest project... Nick Fury 2.0! I liked my original custom Nick Fury, but I wanted to make a better one. For one thing, his appearance wasn't accurate to any comic I've read. And he was too big (he was the same size as Captain America). There's already a really good Marvel Legends figure of his SHIELD suit, so I wanted to make a military fatigues version. The base figure is the newer Marvel Legends Nick Fury. I painted the gloves and boots black (although I might repaint them once I get some more brown paint). The cloth uniform is from a 1980s Tonka toy line called Spiral Zone. The web gear is from Mezco Punisher, and the head is from the old Toybiz Marvel Legends Nick Fury. Here he is with the newer Marvel Legends head sculpt. I like this head sculpt, but the Toybiz one remains my favorite. Thanks for reading!
