At a bookstore: Customer: Do you have the new book about Pavlov's dog and Schrödinger's cat? Clerk: Hmm, that rings a bell but I'm not sure it's here.

Today, on my day off, on the Tenth Anniversary of my father's death, I had to go into work to act as a witness as a single mother was fired from her job. One of the hardest things about being in a leadership position is having to make the difficult decisions and stand by them. I didn't want this and feel for the person; but, when you have told them that their outside problems are affecting their work, pointed them to solutions and help, then continued to deal with their deteriorating work and given them a last chance to make changes, only for the behavior to continue, you aren't left with many alternatives. You act with sympathy and compassion and do your best to help; but, if the person won't or can't change, you are left with a deteriorating environment and a disgruntled team who have to pick up the load. So, you make the hard decision and you live with it.
The ironic thing is that when I was a very young Naval Officer, I was fired from my position (perhaps unfairly), because of mistakes I made. One of the mistakes was not making decisions that needed to be, because I was afraid of making the wrong decision. It was a hard lesson to learn and has stuck with me through bad situations. I make decisions, sometimes wrong; but, I can always correct a bad decision. Making no decision sometimes leaves you in places where there is no alternative left.
Doesn't make me feel a whole lot better, though.
I have more sympathy for Jim Shooter, these days, as he made the hard decisions, after a rotating group that avoided the decisions. I don't necessarily agree with his decisions; but, I respect that he took the responsibility to make them.

Well, an employer is not a parent, except maybe in Japan it used to be kind of like that I think. Yes, I have some respect for Shooter sometimes too, and then I remember that tennis-pro in the Hamptons who was going to usher in a new golden age for humanity... and how Moondragon wept after, and Avengers #200. Then I get over it. It was a good idea to have someone in charge that could coordinate continuity and inventory stories as well as know some solid writing skills. The road to heck is paved with good Legion Of Super-Heroes stories? I had to do some things in a retail business that made me a bad guy (like confront poor old senior citizens that shop lifted food, an employees friend dipping into the stock and then cash register float money), because others wouldn't do those jobs. After I had mostly left things crashed and burned before long as those who always wanted to be seen as kind and good were ripped off and abused. 30 years of success gone in a round 2 further years where it was in the red (but people didn't want to tell others that and other things as it was bad news and they might feel bad or get upset). I also was the good guy and got the business involved in some charity projects without cynically using that for PR or any of that.

Cei-U, I hope you feel better soon. It always sucks to get sick, especially this season. My wife and I got clobbered by a nasty stomach bug last weekend that we're still feeling reverberations from.
Add to that, a recurring leak from out guest bathroom into our kitchen started up again last night. The plumber tried simple fixes the last two times, but now that it's back I am afraid we may be looking at some serious discovery work and all the repair afterward that goes with it. I do not have the few thousand this could potentially cost to spare, so goodbye efforts to pay off the credit card... ugh.
All things considered in the grand scheme, though, things are going great, and I can't and won't complain too much.
I hope everyone is doing well here.

I am soooo tired of all the articles via comic book sites/movie sites which spend all their time denigrating the CGI in super hero shows these days. Yes there is "poor/bad" CGI being done along with really good CGI but why expend energy on crying over it all? Entire articles spent anguishing over how "terrible" the CGI is within such and such movie and how it "takes them out of the experience" of the movie. Do people really spend an entire movie picking apart every CGI piece? Because for myself, I am just happy and very excited CGI has become a "relatively" affordable way to create super hero Television/Movies now so I get to see my HEROES up on the small and large screen.
I don't care if Cavill had to have his mustache CGI removed. Does the hair on Atlantis's people all look so fake and you can see where they CGI connect? Who the hell really cares? I hope for a certain amount of "realistic" CGI so that it looks nice and entertains me without looking like the "old" days of where you can tell somebody is sitting stationary in a car on a set with a film running behind them showing movement or Chris Reeve is having fans blowing and strings pulling his cape to like he is flying or Bigfoot is just a tall guy in a gorilla suit and fake hair.
I am enthralled with most all of the current CGU heroics unless it is overtly poorly rendered (Stephenwolf and Doomsday anyone?) but that doesn't truly ruin the movie itself for me. We all know CGI is the new substitute for actual live action stunts/explosions/beasts/monsters/etc these days because it is much more cost effective or exciting than the "real stuff" can be. We should all know and accept that CGI is only going to be as good as the money the companies put into it and simply be glad for seeing beloved heroes and villains strutting their stuff in film for us.

For those who use Twitter...Bill Sienkiewicz frequently does paintings and drawings of folk who pass during the year. He's been tweeting them out as an in memorium. As always...it's great stuff.
Looks like he's also put them in an album on Facebook.

Well said! I got bored with people talking about Cavill's moustache. It didn't detract from the film, not really. In fact, perhaps if some had chosen NOT to focus on, and just enjoyed the movie on its merits, they might have enjoyed it. I agree about poorly rendered CGI. And, with Doomsday, my issue was that he didn't look distinct, not like Doomsday had in Smallville. But I am glad we are at a stage in history where we can do good CGI. I find the old "guy in a gorilla suit" charming, but I'd much rather see something like a CGI Gorilla Grodd.

Dear Everyone,
2019 will be a different year here in Classic Comic Forum -- my interest only to finish reading all the DC Archives and Marvel Masterworks and decided to drop the Terrifics, Hawkman, and couple other titles that I'm reading right now and decided that I'm not going to spend anymore monies on Comic Books anymore. I'll post Movies Reviews, post covers for the Classic Covers Game, and at some point not going to participate the weekly Covers anymore. Right now at my age, Comics is going to be a thing of the past and I'm tired of reading them. I have been reading Comics since I was 6 years old and that translate nearly 54 years of reading them. Sometimes along that year -- I'm bowing out and not visiting the Classic Comic Discussion Sub Board and that's one board that I'm not visiting much that year. I will visit the Movies, TV, and Fan Fiction Sub Boards as well to.
My most heaviest Sub Board will be Community Discussion and that's where I'll be spending most of my time there. I'm going to be going on three trips next year and be gone a month on those three trips to make up the lost time from 2011 to 2018 for not being able to have a vacation or not.
Anyway, I just wanted to let you all know -- that my presence here in 2019 will be limited and will be changing my avatar every 3 to 5 days and only will be sharing my 50 favorites ones and proceed from there.
I'll update the thread -- 2019 Classic Comics New Year's Resolutions to finish my reading list that I posted there a few days ago and once that list is taken care of. I'm done with it.
It is the time for me to start doing this ... I have to make peace with it.
No Pull Lists anymore and forever ...
