Back in Canada and stable internet access. We tried to figure out what the problems with the centurylink DSL service is/was and it's very wacky. The phone would ring and the internet connection would crash every time for one thing. One tech guy said it was something wrong with the house's wiring and another that this made no sense to them. I hope my BF just changes to Heritage or something else, he thinks he would lose his centurylink email address though if not the centurylink phone number (I'm thinking yes to the email address but not the phone number). Anyway, as they listed him in the phone book more than half the calls are robo b.s. anyway. Maybe he will get frustrated with the U.S. enough to come up here yet though, hoo nose. It definitely sucked to have something like five hours of online time spread out over a month and four days, ugh! I looked in some antique mall type places in OR and WA which had some comics in booths among other things, but either prices were laughably high and condition low or they were '90s-upward books I wasn't interested in but priced fairly in the $1-3 range. Oh well, I did look. Closest '70s thing I might have bought was a Green Lantern/Green Arrow #96 in nice shape for $3 but then I'd undoubtedly have to buy #91-95, so I passed. The BF ended up buying more stuff than I did. I bought one Beatles themed jigsaw puzzle however. Also, took some photos that might make decent virtual jigsaws... more later, long day of travel for me today.

We welcomed a new employee at work the other day and the company president sent out an all-hands (@350 folks) e-mail proclaiming "Welcome abroad, (new employee)!" in a large, bolded font, bless his heart. In fairness, he's much better in person, very charismatic. I dare say I'd follow him through the Gaets of Hell.

Good to hear from you, Becca, and that sucks, I know. Can't imagine having to do that.

Online dating must work wonders ... if you've movie star good looks/a fat wallet. Otherwise, enjoy the silence.

Online dating must work wonders ... if you've movie star good looks/a fat wallet. Otherwise, enjoy the silence. If you've got movie star looks and a fat wallet you don't need online dating. I never did online dating when I was single. Without wanting to sound braggy, I never had a problem meeting women in my social or work life. But I have friends, male and female, who've done it or currently do it. Their results seem to vary wildly from person to person. A couple of them have had great success, insofar as they go on a lot of dates and get a lot of sex, but others either go on dates very sporadically or never at all. Having never tried it, I don't feel qualified to analyse why the results are so wildly different for different people.

Online dating must work wonders ... if you've movie star good looks/a fat wallet. Otherwise, enjoy the silence. I can't speak for how it is today with online dating with all of the apps and swiping left or right and whatnot. 19 years ago, I posted a text-only ad on a local website here in Pittsburgh, got five responses, ignored four of them because they were completely nothing like what I wrote I was looking for, answered one, dated her for a year before getting engaged, got married a year after that, bought a house in the suburbs, had two kids, got two cats and are living happily ever after to this day. As to your point, my sister has tried it, and even though she is a relatively attractive (tall, blonde), physically fit (H/W proportional, runs 5-10 miles or works out 4-5 days per week), financially secure doctor who enjoys world travel and is a serious foodie, she has had minimal luck finding anyone she even wants to go out with and ZERO luck finding someone she ever wanted to have a second date with. On a side note, as the father of two daughters, I love your avatar.

Warning: The following post contains proud Dad bragging:
You know how they tell you never to co-sign for a loan? Well I co-signed for both my daughters when they were in college and needed decent cars. It also helped them establish a credit history.
Fast forward a few years the oldest daughter & husband are meeting with builders to start building their house since they have excellent credit and have been pre-approved for a mortgage. Youngest daughter calls a few nights later and asks for advice as they are buying a new car for her husband. Again no issues since they also have excellent credit.
Proud Dad feels great since they both followed my advice and are starting out with great credit unlike a lot of their peers who are struggling with debt.

I'm heart broken over the last 3 days events. One of my dogs got very sick and couldn't walk on her front right paw. We took her to the vet and they gave her meds and suggested a Hospital for x-rays. We took her home but the next day her paw was swollen to twice the size. We went to a hospital and after x-rays , they ruled out any cancer in the arm. They gave us meds for infection and pain and Diarrhea , which she also has. We had to take her to the vet again for blood work and they kept her and put her on IV. I don't know what to do as I'm financially not set to go all the way for treatment.

Michael, that's a great story!
ICCtrombone, that sucks. I always think about how, despite great pet owners like you, no animal can fully comprehend that a vet is there to help them. I read from one expert that dogs bark a lot in cars as they associate it with a trip to the vet. You're doing your best to help, but until they gain human intelligence, they'll only see a vet with fear, I'm sure (until the vet, if he/she can, calms them down).

Man, I'm sorry to hear about your dog, Icc. Really sad news, and obviously if money for treatment is a concern then that's another level of worry that you really don't need. My wife (who you've met, obviously) always worries about that with our cat and is always on at me about us getting pet insurance. I hope things work out for you and that the vets can make your dog better.

Icctrombone, from one dog-lover to another, my heart breaks for you. Give your pup a hug for me. Hoping you and the vet can work this out somehow and that your friend is back with you ASAP.

Went through something similar with a beloved cat years ago. It got expensive. Best wishes.
