There seems to be the idea that the young are immune or would barely notice this virus (whereas a 38 year old healthy police dispatcher died of it the other day), that drinking alcohol also confers immunity somehow as well as heat/sun. As far as I know those are all totally unfounded, although a bit of sun is good for you anyway (vitamin D). I forgot to mention that I did a semi-lengthy phone interview with a nurse to see if I should've been tested for covid and going through where and when I had been and my symptoms/lack of it, it was determined I had a regular cold (which I have been very careful not passing on to my parents). I rather would not have gone out at all but the banking had become pretty much essential even if I had used the getting a month's grace set up which the bank has been offering. Bills all paid and funds available so now I am set for quite awhile. When I am entirely well I will be the one to go to the store for my parents and a friend of theirs. I am so relieved they all seem to be taking this really seriously now, maybe they saw they'd eventually give me a nervous breakdown otherwise? Talk about herding cats.

My parents have been missing their grand kids so much (and as their first born son, they don't seem to mind me too much) that they have arranged an across-the-fence playdate with the kids. Our kid are playing in the backyard and my parents are in the front yard a few feet back talking to them. My mom is on a step ladder. These are interesting times.

Been thinking about creating a new review thread, because god knows I follow through on those >o>;
Was thinking about doing either "A Year In Valiant", where I review Nu-Valiant's entire first year of publication or "All Roads Lead To Harbinger Wars", reviewing Bloodshot and Harbinger up to and the eventual aftermath of Harbinger Wars

I have to say this Virus has me sweating in a different way than as infected. Phoenix Fan Fusion scheduled for Memorial Day Weekend (5/22, 5/23, 5/24) hasn't chosen if they will be cancelled or not. They have noted on their internet site that since the Convention is 9 weeks away that that they are considering all options to make the best decision for all involved as to whether to continue as planned for the holiday weekend or for rescheduling to a later date. Don't be stupid and make the right choice. Just reschedule already! Follow the lead of what is going on around the city and the world. Better safe than sorry I say and avoid being in trouble. The 9 weeks is just on the inner edge for the projected 12+ week isolation/recovery process and too close for the risk. And how can you have a FAN Convention if the Stars and Vendors which are the main draw can't travel across the country while America is still recovering from this health emergency? Stop counting the money you may lose against the possibility of lives that could be lost. A lot of bigger money makers have chosen to postpone until next year, so why NOT be smart and safe for the public and do the same. I and the rest of the attendee's can wait until the end of summer or into fall or even for next year versus the increased risk of exposure to Covid-19. Good news: Late yesterday afternoon it was announced Phoenix Fan Fusion has been rescheduled until September 25, 26, 27. All tickets bought will automatically be advanced to the new date or if those dates aren't agreeable to attend then you can have them advanced for next year 2021 on it's usual date for Memorial Day Weekend. Smart move and best idea ever for those who wish to attend this year or if still having fears they wait until next year. Will have to wait and see what sorts of further announcements come over summer for guests and vendors. It's a win for everyone. The convention still has a chance to make money and help ease people's tension and concerns over the Virus and we the attendee's can save even more $$ for spending in September and then it is only 8 months instead of a year until next year's convention.

Tragic, definitely, but that is a statistical outlier not representative of the situation as a whole. Younger people can catch the virus like everyone else and yes, they can die from it... but the question is “how likely is that”? All the numbers we have show that young people are far, far, far, far less likely to die from complications of covid-19 than older folks; that’s why Germany, where most of the infected folks are young, has such a low global death rate (around 0,4%). Younger people should definitely follow all the instructions of the health authorities, but mostly so they help slow down the epidemic; not because their own life is particularly at stake. What’s more, they should absolutely be ready to volunteer to help elderly neighbours, whose life is far more likely to be in danger.

Isn't that pretty much the general state of young people?

So I'm sitting at home right now in my comic book room, and it's really loud outside. I turn and look out the window and what do I see? Five elementary and middle school boys playing street hockey in one driveway, while there are three elementary school girls playing dolls in the driveway next door to them.
I'm not blaming the kids, but what part of "self isolation" and "social distancing" don't these parents understand? This isn't muffin-fluffing spring break for your youngsters, and even though I am sure you are tired of being around them 24/7 as you're cooped up in the house, this is how the disease spreads, you morons. One infected kid touches four other kids, who then go inside and infect their respective households, and all of a sudden, there are 24 cases on one street and a bunch of idiots going "how ever could this happen? We stayed home and didn't go out in public, yet somehow we all got sick."
I'd rather have my daughters pissed at me because I won't let them hang out with even one friend than risk them potentially getting sick and giving it to the rest of us, especially since I will be going to their grandparents' house weekly throughout this ordeal to make sure they have food and their medications.

I don't have anything to add to that. Too many idiots not only endangering us all, but making this take longer.

I don't have anything to that. Too many idiots not only endangering us all, but making this take longer. Yeah, and my poor sister, who informed me that starting Monday, she and her five practice partners are splitting into two teams and will be "3 weeks on, 3 weeks off" for the foreseeable future. This is to ensure that there are always healthy doctors at home in case one of the three docs "on" gets sick, and if someone does get sick, they have three weeks "off" to recover. She said that she might not be able to go on vacation with us in July because even if the self-isolation and social distancing orders are lifted, she'll still be around potentially sick people every day and wouldn't want to bring something with her to Ocean City, Maryland while we're around crowds of people. This makes me very sad, as this has been something we've done every two years since my girls were little and is a new family tradition for the two of us who never had many of them growing up (neither of our parents could care about family history or tradition or things like that in the least, so we had very few annual or bi-annual rituals on the calendar).

I am really enjoying the peace and quiet around my neighborhood from everyone locking themselves away inside their homes during this pandemic. Usually all around me, everyone is having parties all afternoons and loud blaring music at night and idiots flying their cars down the main road like speed demons over the weekends. This last weekend was exquisitely quiet and not a sole outside and only an occasional high revving car to be heard. It really was like springtime of my teens during the 70's in my far south small stretch of homes away from the city where you couldn't hear the neighborhood street traffic other than in the morning and evening as parents went to and fro from work. The rest of the day you would smell wet cut lawns, birds chirping and the wind blowing through the trees. Hoping for more of the same over the next several weekends where I can actually sit outside on my back porch with some lemonade and reading my comic books.

I've been trying to use the time given to me by the shelter at home edict from our governor to get to a lot of projects around the house that have sat dormant over the past few years, in particular trying to finish transforming the "finished" attic, which used to be our master bedroom before we moved the bedrooms to the main floor to accommodate my wife, into a library/comic room/den type room. I had done all the work to switch the floors of the rooms, get the rooms downstairs set up and move the bulk of the stuff that would be in the room upstairs and had barely started painting it when I was sidelined by hernia surgery a couple years back, and over the ensuing years hadn't had more then a handful of days where I could work on it where I wasn't working, had other priorities that needed done around the house or was just too worn out to be able to do anything productive towards it. Days off were taken up by routine chores or actually spending time with my wife and the whole project mostly lay fallow.
On Tuesday and Wednesday I got the bulk of the painting in the main part of the space done, and was planning on getting to the small detail stuff (molding, trim, etc.) today, but just wasn't up for it, so instead I went out to the garage and started cleaning/organizing it to reclaim the space I use as a workshop so I have a place to work when I finish the first phase of the room (painting) and move to phase two (creating built-in shelving and storage units). I managed to clear off both the table and workbench, find/reclaim the bulk of my power tools that had gotten buried, find salvage/reclaimed wood to use for the actual shelves (I had to go out and get the 2 x 4 and 1 x 3 pieces I needed for framing before the shelter in place order took effect), find/clean the wood crates I was repurposing/repainting when I got sick, swept out a chunk of dust/dirt, etc. I need to set off a couple a bug bombs this weekend as we seem to have gotten a colony of spiders in there over the past two years, and do a little more cleaning, but I have a usable work space once again. And now, tomorrow it's on to the trim painting...
