Yes. It's owned by some friends of the family and I started part time there when they opened just after I left teaching 12 years ago Where and what did you teach if I may ask? History, Social Studies (Economics & Psychology), Writing, English, and co-taught couple of co-disciplinary classes ( history/art, history/literature, & history/computer literacy at an alternate high school) at both the secondary and university levels for 16 years. -M

My former brother-in-law Jeff, the father of my sister's three youngest daughters and the only real father the other two ever knew passed away this morning after a two-year battle with cancer. He was in constant excruciating pain these last few months and weighed only 108 pounds (on a 6'3" frame) at the end, so for his sake I'm glad his suffering is over. Later, when I'm not feeling so numb, I'll be angry with him. He could've lived another four or five years if he'd followed his doctor's advice and quit smoking cigarettes. Please, if any of you are smokers, quit now and prolong your life.

Painful news, Cei-U!, especially at this time. I know just how you feel when you say you are angry. My sister lost her husband to an addiction he couldn't break away from, and it left her a widow with two young children about 10 years ago. For me the anger and disappointment have subsided, but they linger, they linger. My brother-in-law's life -- and theirs -- had been almost charmed, and could have remained that way. Such is life, however. They have moved on and are the stronger, if the sadder, for it.

Condolences to you and all of your family - most of whom I have met.

Cei-U! So very sad for your sister's and his kids. I quit smoking a little over twenty two years ago now (when I didn't think I could ever do it). Nicotine gum for emergency only and St. John's Wort for nerves helped. I guess I smoked from around 13 to 30, I was the last of all my friends to start and everyone in my family smoked except on grandmother. It helped to get a real hate on for what it did to me, what it cost, and what it make me feel like I couldn't get free of it. Like an alcoholic I know I can never have 'just one' ever again and I don't want to. I am around them a lot though when I'm with family. I'm still sad my parents had both been quit for a year plus in 1986 when to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary Mom decided to have 'just one' to 'celebrate'... and promptly was hooked all over again and my Dad followed and they still are puffing away in their late '70s. I hate that these things still show me how helpless I am before them.

My wife has smoked ever since I've know her. And I myself after socially smoking then getting hooked on snuff for ten years thought I finally ditched the habit. Ten years with no nicotine. And now here in the past 2 years or so I have started back up with smoking again. And I am realizing I've got to get off of it again. If not for my health for my boys so I am around as long as can be.

Cei-U!
I'm sorry to hear about this Kurt.
I'm 6'3" and 260 lbs but carry it pretty well. I can't imagine being 108 lbs. I was skin and bones in college at 165 !
Funny I should read this now as my youngest brother just posted a pic of a pipe he picked up, similar to what my dad smoked 40 years ago.
Our brother, the cancer survivor, really leaned into him to remember how hard his cancer treatment were, but my little brother is saying he just smokes it occasionally.

Cei-U! So sorry to hear, Kurt. I lost my mother-in-law to lung cancer as well. My daughter was very young when her grandma passed and only has a few memories to hold onto. Too many people I've known have had to fight addiction, and too often have lost. I hope some people hear you and are able to quit.

Announcement of forum rules change from the Admin/Moderators
Hi all,
Just an FYI that the forum "Rules of the Road" have been updated to include a mention about violating fair use copyright laws with comic book artwork. Including images of comic art in your posts is still absolutely fine, but we have to ask you not to post multiple pages of copyrighted work, or even multiple pages of stuff that is in the public domain, since entire scanned pages can be disruptive to the eye and to page load times. As a rule of thumb, the text relating to an image should be bigger/longer than the scan provided; often one or two panels is enough to illustrate your point. A post consisting of one sentence followed by 3 or 4 whole pages of artwork is no longer acceptable.
Many thanks in advance for complying with this new rule.

I understand and agree with the need to curtail the posting of many pages of art ad seriatim. What does this mean for threads like "Cover Contest" and "favorite splash pages" and the like which consist solely of art?
