You have to hand it to Kraven, he runs through the jungle rough housing with wild beasts and there's not a hair on his head out of place. Jungle Gel does the job. Just a dab'll do ya!

On a very rare occassion, our home was invaded by...a couple of rats.
I managed to hit one with a cricket bat...stunned him, heard a 'crunch' but he still ran off.
He paid me back later by crawling up between 2 boxes of comics and dying there.
Discovered him just over a day later when that scent of 'rot' became apparent.
Neither boxes or books were damaged....but I have an air freshener (like the one used in bathrooms) to take away that scent.
Anyone else ever had a dead critter cozy up by your books?

Had a pigeon squeeze through a break in my carport ceiling, managed to knock out a ceiling vent into my bedroom/storage room where I keep my comics and until he died left feathers and pigeon crap all over the room.😫
Had a very old cat I took in from my uncle who no longer wanted it around after my aunt passed away. I kept my bedroom door closed as the cat liked sleeping on my bed pillow. Cat managed to get the door open one day while I was at work and got itself caught in the window curtains. So I thought until I unhooked it's claws and then the cat dropped to the floor and went thump. It must have died from panic/heart attack as rigor mortis had set in.😰
Cat sat for friends when they took a 2 week vacation. Brought cat to my house and 1st night it caught a mouse and left it on my bed to as an offering in the morning. Of course I happened to be sleeping and woke to find it. Friends were so mad as had the cat for over 2 years and they had rodents but cat never brought them a mousey gift. I guess he loved me more.😁
Always finding random pigeon carcasses and feathers around my yards as many of my oh so great neighbors leave their cats outside to reproduce & poop in my yard.😡
One winter woke up and starting my car to drive to work and most awful scream and I thought my engine had blown up. Shut the car off & opened my car hood to find some stray had climbed up under the hood over the cold night. Presumably just after I got home the night before while the engine was warm and was up against the radiator so as I started the engine the bad ol' putty was sliced to pieces. 😰
Had moved into my grandparents home after my grandfather passed away & grandmother moved in with my aunt and uncle. Was going to live there for next year or so as we fix up the place to sale. Bought a mutt dog for watching the home while I worked all day so the 1st night I let the dog sleep inside with me to acclimate. Woke up to an odd smell, hearing little echoing yaps and found the dog with 3 newborn pumps in my laundry basket of dirty clothes inside the closet. Pound where I bought did NOT even know the dog was pregnant. 🤯

So, been using my unemployment to rest, read watch DVD's during the brutally hot August. Finally cooler weather allowing me to actually breathe normally and NOT sweat all my internal organs away, I have begun the painful laboriously intensive job to sort through ALL my comics of last August's break in and theft of my life's collection.
I had managed in picking up all the loose piles of comics the robbers just tossed around or left laying around the house last winter. Any time I thought about starting into sorting through them all I became was angry and physically ill, so I kept putting it off. A year has now passed and still it hurts with anger but I can confront the loss and proceed.
Now I have begun placing series together into boxes. Spent the last 3 days pulling and working on this. Still need to process all the extra loose stuff I just piled into that closet. So at the moment I now have around 10 short boxes I have separated. The next step will be placing the comics of each box into numerical issue order.
Step after that will be seeing how much is missing from series. Already know much of the current DC/MARVEL stuff from around Civil War forward have a lot of holes, so most likely turn in to my LCS for whatever profit I can create. Most of the last 10+ years Avengers, JLA, Titans, Fantastic Four, LOSH and Titans are part of that big mess.
Classic wise, they stole away my COMPLETE AVENGERS run. Complete WEST COAST AVENGERS, FANTASTIC FOUR 1 to 41, my IRON MAN run from issue 90 to Heroes Reborn, CAPTAIN AMERICA from Gruenwald through Heroes Reborn, my THOR run from Simonson through the Jurgens/Romita, NEW X-MEN FROM Cockrum through Smith. SPIDER-MAN runs of AMAZING from #75 up and complete PETER PARKER.
Took 2 long boxes full of black and white independents during the big 80's explosion. Took my Elquest run from start until the final chapter. MY ORIGINAL complete NEXUS all gone. GRIMJACK & TRUMAN 4Winds series gone.
DC wise got away with my SWAMP THING original through Moore, Bisette, etc. Stole my Byrne start of Superman through Death of, complete WARLORD, Milestone collection is gone, GREEN LANTERN from Grell through his becoming Parallax, JUSTICE LEAGUE from Perez to Maguire to Detroit. They took KIRBY NEW GODS, OMAC, MISTER MIRACLE, DEMON.
Lost from my youth collecting new off the spinner rack are my Marvel runs of MTU, MTIO, Defenders, Micronauts, Godzilla, Machine Man, Devil Dinosaur, Deathlok, Kilraven/War of the Worlds, Black Panther in Jungle Action, Marvel Triple Action & Marvel Greatest Comics, Marvel Tales Star Trek from Marvel and DC.
That's all I can track at the moment. Still to inventory: 4 short boxes which were stacked under the bedroom desk they missed taking and the bunches of action figures. I don't really care too much on the figures as the few I collected on my own are packed in boxes and buried in another room which the didn't touch. Most figures taken were all GIFTS for birthday/Christmas from my friends of things they thought I may like. Some hit the mark, many still in original packaging cuz I could care less. So again lots of those will be dusted off, taken to the LCS or Toy collector to see what $ they can bring me.
Later after sorting through these boxes I will post what series survive the purge.

That's heartbreaking, brutalis . It also angers me deeply. Those people knew you and knew you had a valuable collection. Did the police ever catch the bastards?

'As they sow, so shall they reap' aka karma might provide some consoling thoughts. Wouldn't want to be them.

It must have been someone who knew you collected.
Did you have insurance to cover it ?
What kind of vile person would even think of doing something like this ?
I can only imagine the pain you went through.

Have home owners insurance so partially covered. Since my collecting is more about the personal satisfaction and "reading" and not for resale or investing for big bucks I never bothered to go for the full on deal for appraisal/documentation that high end insuring would require.
As to the actual thieves, who knows. I can say since the focus of the theft was solely on my bagged/boarded longboxes along with some DVD's and framed art prints hanging in my living room, it had to be about grab and run with what they thought would get them the most money. They literally dumped and emptied my longboxes of newer comics of the last 10+ years full of unbagged/unboarded comics in favor for taking almost ALL boxes that were bagged and boarded and labeled.
An anonymous letter left on my car days later (possibly from a neighbor) gave an address saying it was someone that they knew who broke in. Looked up address on Google and it is 3 blocks away from me. I gave the note to the Police for follow up but no idea if they investigated. All I do know is my "case" was closed 2 weeks later with documented as being unresolved with no evidence found or items returned.
Won't even go into entire Police portion of story as it was pitifully crappy. Suffice to say nothing recovered, no details and I have NOT gone anywhere away from home for the last year. Especially since COVID came along and my unemployment, self isolation was and is my new normal. I am the Howard Hughes of the CCF at the moment...

I think most of us are doing the Howard Hughes thang.
I don't have any super valuable issues but have my collection covered under my homeowners. Hopefully I never have to exercise that coverage.

So Hurricane Sally is coming right at us. Don't expect much beyond the obvious strong winds and rain. Got two days off of work, so that's a plus. Hopefully the aftermath won't be too severe
