The thing about freedom is your freedom to move your fist ends where my face begins. By having that party and then sending their kids to school, they are effectively doing the same thing but with respiratory particles, though it's not nearly as elegant or concise a saying.

@bert , I likely got it from my older daughter, who picked it up at school. Apparently the incredibly selfish, stupid, and irresponsible parents of one of her 9th-grade classmates thought it would be OK to let their kid have a party with multiple dozens of people at it, and within 7-10 days, there were at least 20 reported cases among the kids who were there. I wonder, The Captain... Do you think that if someone from any of these kids' families actually dies, the party-holding parents would feel any guilt? Or would they just shrug and think "there's no way to be sure it's our fault"? I would agree with the fact of the matter: there's no way to be sure. But since there's a very good correlation between attending large gatherings and catching covid, and between catching covid and giving it to an elderly person, and between being an elderly person with covid and being dead, I would definitely not take any chance. But the question is rhetorical. Daily examples show us how a lot of people won't stop to think at how their choices might have consequences for others, if they find it inconvenient. Seeing as many of the same "Muh Freedom" folks are also Evangelical (I refuse to call them "religious"), they would likely take the "It's God's will" approach, which is shorthand for "I take zero responsibility by invoking an unprovable theory that is based solely on MY believing it". Funny thing about "God's Will" is that maybe what His will actually was, was thwarted by your actions, unless you believe all of your actions are predestined and that you are simply an automaton running through a program, which is then the belief that "I can do whatever I want because it is what God had planned for me to do anyway."

we just got back from our 2nd shots. (Moderna)
the 2nd shot actually hurt a bit - a stinging pain, and i'm already pretty sore at the injection site (but that could have just been the nurse I had - Spouse's shot was lower in the muscle and he reported no stinging).
I hear from friends, that reactionary symptoms seem to hit ~17 hours after injection. . so that means ~10 am tomorrow. we shall see.
but regardless? worth it, and glad we qualified and were able to get it.

if your 2nd is a month out? it's likely Moderna (Phizer tends to be 3 weeks, and J&J doesn't need a 2nd shot)

They of course brought it to school in the interim, which is why our HS shut down ALL in-person instruction just one week after returning everyone to the building full-time from hybrid (they'd phased it in gradually, starting with the seniors and working down to freshpeople). So sorry to hear you're family has been hit. Mine has been lucky so far, and my wife and I have been able to be vaccinated (she qualified as a health care worker and I as an essential utility worker). We hope to get our daughter and her friend (whom we've unofficially adopted) can get vaccinated soon. It's infuriating that irresponsible butt-heads like these can endanger so many innocent bystanders who've been trying so hard to stay safe. But it's their freedom, or it's a hoax, or it's no more serious than the flu, or whatever other damn fool excuse they trot out.

For what it's worth, my wife got the Moderna vaccine, and was a bit tired and run-down the next day after the 2nd shot, but that was it. I ended up with the Johnson & Johnson one & done shot, and had nothing but a somewhat sore arm. Hoping you'll have mild to no symptoms come tomorrow.

I had my 2nd Pfizer shot last Friday. At the time I got it, they were telling me that the reported incidence of side effects were higher, after the 2nd, but fortunately I experienced none. Zero. In fact, my arm quit hurting the next day. After my first one, it hurt for 3 days, but I still no side effects with that one either.
I count myself fortunate in that respect. I hope both of you are just as fortunate.

Great news! I get my second Pfizer shot in two weeks. I’m not looking forward to that next day by all accounts, but it is definitely worth it. Everyone I know who’s received it has had at most a short spell of fatigue. My wife had that very reaction this past Sunday, and I was ready for worse, because she is immuno-compromised. Her arm dudn’t even hurt. By all accounts, the second dose of Moderna, which I’m getting on Friday, tends to cause the worse reaction of the two. But even that is short-lived. One of my nieces, a med student and her mom, my sister, were headachy, tired, and ran a temp for 12 hours or so. But theat niece has always had strong reactions to vaccines. Knowing whatever happens will be of brief duration makes any reaction bearable. PS: Don’t know anyone who has taken the J and J yet.

COVID Update:
This is Day 7 for me, and it's been the worst so far. Fevers are pretty rough, but Tylenol is helping. Cough comes and goes, but when it hits, it's violent.
Older daughter got her positive result today, and we're expecting the younger one to get hers tomorrow. Luckily, neither is presenting much, if anything, in the way of symptoms or effects, so that's a blessing.
On a positive note, with two of us sick, one almost certainly, and my wife vaccinated, I don't have to isolate any more. I got my first hug in three days this afternoon, from my older daughter, and it was glorious. We're all off on Friday and we're going to watch movies and eat junk food.

Got shot one and I’m in full blown side effects. Massive headache. Run down. Freezing (usually I’m uncomfortably hot if it’s over 55).
Only thing I had with actual covid that I don’t have now was the trouble breathing.
Hopefully it’s short lived.

Hopefully it’s short lived. yeah, I saw analysis that those who get the vaccine after having Covid tend to get the side effects pretty hard. I've just had today a really sore arm, a slight headache, a fever (101) and tiredness, so took a nap.

When I had the first Pfizer dose last week, I was a little run down, but had no other side effects and no arm soreness at all. However, I was already under the weather because of hypertension (my BP when I first got the doctor's office that morning was 210/90 and came down to 170/80 before I left, but was still running way too high. I've been on BP meds for years and managed fine, but these last two weeks it has become unmanaged, and my doc just upped my dosage on one of the meds). So I am not really sure what were after-effects of the vaccine and what was the results of the hypertension. I was run down the entire day before I got the shot and slept most of that day, and the day of the shot just felt like more of the same.
