Well the great internet interruption of 2021 at our home seems to be over. For the past week and a half, our internet access has been spotty at best, and seemed to slow way down and/or die in peak hours. The friendly (if not so competent) customer service people assured us it was an issue with our modem and sent us a new modem to install, except the new modem didn't connect at all while the old modem provided sporadic access (with long droughts of no access). Not so much an issues except, a) I am working from home and need access, b) our phone and cable are tied to the modem as well so we haven't had access to them either. Then Tuesday it went down again, we called and they scheduled a service call, but then texted us back and said we found the issue on our end, it's fixed. Would you like to cancel the service call. Everything was working. We cancelled the service call. One hour after the service call was supposed to have happened on Wednesday morning, everything died again and we had been offline since except if we used our phones. We scheduled the service call again, this time they said, hey, there's a problem in the lines outside connecting to your house, It's not the modem and it's not on our end. Guy came today, it was a 20 minute fix to replace the lines outside. He rolled his eyes at the customer service story, and when he left gave us his direct text in case there was any further issues. So I am back online and catching up (I kept up with PMs via the pone as needed but haven't followed much on the site in a few days except for the few hours we had it working Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning. Ain't technology grand! -M Here in the UK, there’s a DVD rental by post company called Cinema Paradiso. They often post ads on FB, and the usual social media ignoramuses (social media, eh?) mock them, asking why people would rent DVDs by post in 2021. No-one with a brain seems to be on social media, at least not those with complaints (sorry, cynical here). As Cinema Paradiso pointed out, along with some customers, DVD rental by post still appeals because of patchy internet issues. And that’s before you get into the whole “some shows not on streaming services” debate. If you want to watch The A-Team, it isn’t on any UK streaming service right now, at least when I last checked. If it’s not on TV, and people wish to rent it, Cinema Paradiso is the place to go. Really, thought, it’s about patchy internet. And that’s important. In recent weeks, I’ve been watching The Walking Dead. Station 19 and What If? on Disney+. Except despite trying to catch an episode of each per day, I couldn’t for two consecutive days as nighttime (last Tuesday and Wednesday) saw the dreaded orange light on my modem, for almost the entire night. Would have loved to have had discs for those shows those two nights! I couldn’t get an issue of Pro Wrestling Illustrated to load on my Kindle recently. Other eBooks fine, but that one, ordered direct from Amazon, just won’t load. How I wish I’d picked up a paper copy. So, yeah, ain’t technology grand? Those above scenarios, and your quote, show that technology can leave us frustrated.

Those above scenarios, and your quote, show that technology can leave us frustrated. I love the convenience of streaming, but I absolutely buy the ones I really care about on physical media. I also run a private in-home media server from my computer with my movies I've bought on disk, so I get the best of both worlds! Totally feel you. Side note, I've wanted a drum set for 20 years, but I always put it off because I didn't have anywhere to put it, don't have the time, the money, the space, you name it. But you know what? I'm not getting any younger, and there will always be an excuse. I also never know what to say when my family asks what I want for Christmas because the little stuff I've already bought, so everything I still want tends to be really expensive, and I feel weird asking. Well, my wife is a gem, and she has taken it upon herself to make sure everyone knows this is what I want for Christmas/birthday/you name it, so she is corralling the family into paying toward it, so at long last I will have my precious drum set. I look forward to sucking as badly as that as I did at guitar when first learning. Also, it's electronic, so I can put on headphones and spare my family the details of the learning curve.

I've just been reading about the terrible weather events that hit the Southern Illinois/Kentucky/St. Louis area last night. Hope any of you who live around there made it through okay.

Oh, it's much more widespread than that. The storm line literally stretches north-south across the entire eastern US.
We (Murfreesboro TN-- 35 miles south of Nashville) got lots of wind and rain, and were under several tornado warnings, but never lost power. The worst of it was well north of us.

I'm reading now that one tornado looks to have been on the ground for 200 miles and may end up beating the record of 220 miles.
Here in Chicago, we also got wind and rain, but nothing worse.

All, just wanted to back in here and say hello as I've been away for awhile. My apologies for going MIA for a bit, I won't go into anything dramatic but just had to go offline for a bit, all is well at this point and I'm looking forward to jumping back in and catching up. In my short time here earlier this year, I felt like this was a great group, and thank you for those who reached out checking in to see if things were OK. You might say: FOUND: One lost Supercat

I'm guessing that you were probably just on an extended off-world adventure with Comet the Super Horse and Beppo the Super Monkey.
Welcome back.

Welcome back 😉
