(...) Some bottlers in other countries such as Mexico still use sucrose in their Coke and you can immediately tell the difference.
(...) Used to be the case in most European countries, like Croatia, where I am, until a few years ago (and they used beet sugar). Now though, the local Coca Cola bottling company in Zagreb has switched to high fructose corn syrup across the board, and yes, you can taste the difference. Now, when I occasionally treat myself to a cola (my preferred soda), I either get a Pepsi bottled in Slovenia or a brand called Sky Cola from Bosnia, both of which still use sugar (sucrose). However, I still prefer HFCS to the the sweeteners used in diet drinks. And yes, I know all of this stuff is extremely unhealthy; as I said, I only drink them occasionally (as opposed to pretty much every day when I was younger).

I've always maintained it was actually a somewhat clever bait-and-switch. New Coke was never meant to be permanent. It was a distraction to hide the change in the original's formula from sucrose (a sweetener derived from sugar cane or sugar beets) to the much cheaper fructose a.k.a. corn syrup. This changed the taste, eliminating that exhilarating crispness that made an ice cold Coke such a treat. Some bottlers in other countries such as Mexico still use sucrose in their Coke and you can immediately tell the difference. These days I only drink Diet Coke, which doesn't taste like any of the three versions mentioned above, so I don't have a dog in that fight anymore. Cei-U! I summon the straw! EDIT: I originally wrote "glucose" instead of the correct "fructose." Mea culpa.
Interestingly (I thought, at least) not only does Mexico still produce it this way, but they do so specifically to export to the USA to be sold as "the Mexico Coke still made with sugar." The cheaper corn syrup variety is sold in Mexico for common consumption. Take all this with a grain of salt (or sucrose if you prefer) as I am recalling from memory. Also, Happy Birthday!

Was the recipient of a nice gesture today. A guy who comes into my work fairly frequently who's fairly friendly (if a little snarky) gifted me some comic books after I told him about the return of my own collection. Some are in fairly good shape considering their age while others haven't weathered the marching of time quite so well. Regardless though, look forward to enjoying them

Gotta love a collection that has DC, Marvel, Golf Key and an odd indie, like ACG.

My older brother brought this for me. I love "In The Heat Of The Night", though I probably like the Carol O'Connor tv show adaptation more than I probably should (Started watching reruns during my teens in the summer and haven't stopped. The local channel Bounce even has a marathon of it on Sundays). Need to see Mad Mad World sometime, heard a lot of good things about it Also, am I the only one that thinks that Tony's original Iron Man suit looks better than what Ditko later helped create?
