Yeah, we're not at giving up caffeine levels let, but I am going to be mindful of overall intake. We recently moved somewhere where we naturally walk a lot more, so I'm getting more steps in. I let strength training lapse when it got cold and snowy, but going to pick that back up, too.
Mostly I need to stop eating like an asshole.

I changed the way I eat after being diagnosed with lymphadema a few years ago and lost 100 pounds by eating better and eating less. In the last year, though, with all the problems that have plagued me (especially my sister's illness and death, plus the ensuing caregiver problems) I've been overindulging in candy, salty snacks, etc. out of depression/self-pity. As a result, I've put probably 40 pounds back on but I'm back on the healthy eating train and hope to take it all off by summer. My doctor recently put me on blood pressure medication, which gave me just the kick in the ass I needed to motivate me Wish me luck!

Since being diagnosed with afibrillation back in 2019 I have given up 90% of my caffeine intake. I use to be a regular coffee drinker but not anymore. And that really isn't hard to do as I can physically feel the effects of excess caffeine intake on my heart. It counters my medications and I can feel it. I can have the occasional can/bottle of Coke when I crave it and it doesn't seem to effect me. In fact I went and bought a Coke yesterday before church that really hit the spot. I unfortunately since 2021 when I lost 50 lbs due to my heart condition have gained some of it back myself. But I can get back on track. I drink little beer anymore. If I want a drink it's vodka with zero sugar Sprite or ginger ale or wine. Though alcohol in general my doctor gets on me about. But hey I quick smoking. Doctors are never happy though smh

I was super healthy in my intake and not terrible with exercise. Then I got married again.

We're all going to die eventually. It's just a fact of life. I figure I can live slightly longer and be miserable or I can eat and drink the stuff that I like. The latter is more acceptable to me.

Agreed to a point, but eating poorly makes me feel worse, both physically and emotionally. Short term gratification versus long term,

That isn't a realistic option for me, though, as my weight directly affects my mobility. I've been paying the price for my indulgences this past year and I'm more than ready to get back in shape.

I absolutely understand that your circumstance is significantly different. Everyone has to do what is best for them.

Agreed to a point, but eating poorly makes me feel worse, both physically and emotionally. Short term gratification versus long term, Yeah, this is the thing, it's not necessarily an "either/or" type of thing. "All things in moderation" is a really good rule for eating at least reasonably healthy, I feel. I do hear what Slam is saying though: life is for living, after all. But although we might all be going to die eventually, I'm sure we all have family and loved ones who would like us to stick around and kick the bucket as late as possible. For myself, it comes down to the fact that I do feel much better in myself if I don't eat and drink crap all the time and put on loads of weight, clog up my arteries and f*ck my pancreas. But at the same time I absolutely refuse to give up all the good stuff completely; I just try to ration it out a little bit.

Yeah, I aim for finding the right balance when I'm on track. Not even trying and eating what I want is only enjoyable in the moment. I feel like crap afterwards, both physically and emotionally. I also don't like how clothes fit when I get too loose with it, and while I'm not overly concerned with how I look to an excessive degree, there's a point after which I genuinely don't like what I see. Plus yeah, the whole I don't want someone else raising my kids or looking after my wife. I also like this life thing.
That said, I'm also not going to never have a cookie again. I just need to get things under control and then get a balanced routine going on. I'm still searching for the optimal maintenance mode plan for myself that works, allows enough wiggle room to enjoy things, and that I will actually follow through on.

Tornado warning sounded at 4:45 this morning. Wind and rain got pretty intense and there was a touch down not that far from us, but we're ok and it seems to have move passed us even if the warning is still on for our county until 5:30.
