The only drawback I see with our home gym (we have a dip station, a punching bag, a homemade bench and free weights) is that it's easier to give up when fatigue sets in. I somehow always found more motivation at the gym, having gone through the problem of getting there in the first place and seeing all the other people giving it their best. On the other hand, at the gym, I don't have the cat helping me and I can't have a Twilight Zone episode playing in the background! Decisions, decisions... *Added as an afterthought: a great complement to the tall dip station is a set of rings. Plenty more exercises suddenly become possible. one of my exercises is going up and down the stairs with a pair of dumbbells, so I need that door open so I can turn around at the top. So you do your workout with two partners? Do they know you refer to them in this way?

I've always wanted rings, but I don't trust myself to install them without destroying part of the house. Same here so I installed them on the dip/pull-up bar station. Can't swing from them of course, but for push-ups and the like it's pretty cool.

Doghouse Reilly it really sounds like you are living the full "heavy metal" lifestyle, eh? Your home gym's slogan could be "(Pick) Up the Irons. Now do it 10-15 more times."

It's the Bill and Ted workout protocol. Pick up a heavy dumbbell - "That's some heavy metal. Excellent!" But if I can't get to my target reps - "Bogus!" On good days, I feel like I'm jamming with the band. On vocals... Bruce. On guitar... Adrian and Dave. On bass and drums... Steve and Nicko. And on dips... Sean!

Fifty years ago today, McDonalds opened its first UK location in London.
It’s very rare for me to eat in there. When I have had fast food, I much preferred the flame-grilled burger in Burger King. But I guess when I have been in McDonalds, I did enjoy their burgers, fries and strawberry milkshake.
I’ve probably been in McDonalds once every 2-3 years, I mean it’s hardly cheap.
What happened to Ronald McDonald? He doesn’t appear to feature in their advertising nowadays.

What happened to Ronald McDonald? He doesn’t appear to feature in their advertising nowadays. Blame Stephen King. Thanks to "It," that rash of scary clown sightings a decade back, and other negative depictions in the media, McDonalds has been phasing Ronald out, retaining him primarily as the namesake of their Ronald McDonald House charity.

Just found out I won the National Lottery draw tonight. Or, rather, two numbers came out - which means I simply get a free ticket for the next draw. If only my other four numbers had come out, I’d now be looking at a jackpot of £2 million. Typical, eh?

I never knew that "clown fear " was a thing until about 10 years ago. I had a nightmare about a clown when I was five (in 1969). He was choking me in the kitchen right in front of my family, and no one saw anything. I have hated clowns ever since!

I never knew that "clown fear " was a thing until about 10 years ago. Ever see Poltergeist? Yeah, scary clowns have been a thing for quite a while. I have vague memories of some film from the 50s or possibly early 60s (maybe the late 40s, but I don't think so)with some kind of murder, in a circus (or something that leads to a killing) with a clown at the center and it was nightmare-inducing. Don't forget, John Wayne Gacy did charity work, as a clown. Doesn't take much to turn that image into something sinister. Some of the figures in the comedia dell'arte are even more sinister, if you ask me. There were several killer clowns in the Golden Age, besides The Joker and even Archie had one, in one of their Pureheart the Powerful stories, with Archie as a superhero (in Life with Archie). They also had a killer Clown, in The Hangman.

I think there's a lot to be said for the idea that the big fast-food chains and the food industry in general should be subjected to the same kind of regulatory scrutiny as the tobacco industry.

I definitely agree that the "classic" clown image with the white-face, bald head, bulbous nose, etc, is more creepy and repulsive than comical or amusing and I'm pretty sure I've felt that way from childhood.

A co-worker was a professional party clown as a side gig, and he once ran down the ways you could tell at a glance that Gacy was not one. The main one I remember is that real clowns never make sharp points with their makeup--everything is rounded and soft.
