I good friend of mine died of a massive heart attack last Sunday. His service was Thursday . It was a bad week for me. I'm having a few glasses of wine to just decompress. Geez, I'm sorry to hear this, man. Hang in there.

Is it ridiculous that I get kind of excited when the banner ads on the site actually come close to pegging me correctly? I just got an ad for licensed Spider-Man "Good Nites" disposable bed time underwear. No, my kids are potty trained and have been for a very long time now, but I LIKE that they finally figured out I'm both a comic book geek AND a father of young children. Score one for you, ad choice. See the banner ads seem to be my shadow-if I just checked a big and tall website for Red Sox and comic tees, I get banners for those items on sale elsewhere or banners for other big and tall apparel shops. If I look up a book on Amazon, I get ads for the same books on ebay or other booksellers, or similar items on Amazon, I read an article on the Cowboys blog before coming here and my banner ads are for Cowboys merchandise, I go to a different proboards site run by some friends and the banner ad is for proboards itself. It's like my browsing history in ad form every time I come here. -M

It's when the ad choices creatively anticipate that I'm the right target audience that I get impressed.

I might be even more creeped out if it anticipated me, but it has yet to do that...unless the ads for Depends and hearing aids are telling me something about my future I don't know.... -M

I accept the fact that, within reason, my browser history is public record and can be used to sell me stuff. Content and services on the internet (like this website) have to be paid for somehow, so I applaud companies that try to do a better job of it rather than simply attempting more intrusive blunt methods. Remember a few years back when they had all those voice ads that would start talking to you, and you'd have to scan the page, find the ad, and x it out to make it stop? Infuriating. My old tripod pages are now so laden with pop-up ads that they're impossible to view these days. Also infuriating.
So I don't mind this. And if I were to surf somewhere that I didn't want made public record (not that I generally do), I know what to do to make that browsing relatively invisible.
It's more the icloud hack and things of that nature, where materials and info that were supposed to be private are suddenly turned public, that I get creeped out. I don't want to find pictures of my six year old at the pool being displayed on a pedophile website.

Met two lovely lesbian comic book geeks tonight who're also organizing a local Roller Derby League for the first time in this town's history. I wanna see if I can get them that issue of Dazzler were the villains are lesbian roller derby amazons.

I've never owned a single issue of Dazzler in my life nor had any interest in doing so, but when you put it like... that issue of Dazzler were the villains are lesbian roller derby amazons. ...I just suddenly became intrigued, if only to see how Marvel thought lesbian characters talked and acted in the late 70's/early 80's. I'm sure they will handle it with the same sensitivity and lack of stereotyping that they used when writing black characters in the late-Silver Age and early-Bronze Age, as well as how they wrote "street toughs" well into the 90's. Ought to be fun!

I hate, hate, HATE dealing with bureaucrats. Just sayin'. Cei-U! I summon the dent in my forehead (from beating it against a stone wall)! From my military days of dealing with the government, I can relate. There's a reason why military intelligence is considered a contradiction of terms.
Best of luck with your bureaucratic numbskulls. I'm guessing this is still relating to your wheelchair issues you mentioned before?

Yup. It's their apparent inability to communicate with each other that drives me bananas, so to speak. Fortunately, it looks there may be some forward progress after all. Keep your fingers crossed.
Cei-U! I dare to hope!
