I'm a little annoyed. I have this DS9 gold edition that I was going to place on ebay when I discovered it was signed in the lower right hand side of the cover. I don't know whose signature it is. That is flipping gorgeous. I'd bid in a heartbeat, signature be damned. Edit: Might be Purcell's signature? The first letter could be a P followed by a quick u and r, that could be a big C, and then there's an L. Dude might not be able to spell his own name?

It's an interesting story about this book, Malibu had an incentive program for their readers. They had stamps that you could send in for special books and I collected them and sent them in along with a check for shipping and handling. Well, Malibu's superhero line was bought by Marvel and i never heard anything about what I mailed them . About a year later , Marvel Comics sent me a parcel with about 20 books or so of Mailbu's special Variants ( Gold, Silver) and the un- cashed check. Not a bad score. Shax, PM me your address and I'll send it to you.

There was this great documentary part of ESPN's 30 for 30 documentary series called June 17, 1994 that was about just how crazy that day was with the Knicks & Rockets in the NBA Finals, the opening of the World Cup, Arnold Palmer's last round in the U.S. Open and the NY Rangers' Stanley Cup victory parade. 30 For 30 are wonderful. June 17,1994 is a great doc. The footage culled is fantastic. Wow, OJ's wild ride was 20 years ago?? Sheesh. Yeah. I remember where I was watching that stupid chase on the 405. We were getting our house fixed from the wonderful Northridge earthquake and we rented a condo for a few months. I was coming home from school and was just in awe like everyone else.

Re: Time Traveling I was reading up on John Titor recently, the guy that posted on message boards in 2000 stating he was a Time Traveler from 2036. Hoax or not, his information makes for some fascinating science fiction. The Physics of time travel, the concept of worldlines, and the basic systems for a gravity distortion system have me in awe and wonder. However, the message that really hits home didn't have anything to do with time travel, but how our future ancestors might view this age of mankind: Wow. Check out the rest of John Titor's posts here: Conviction of a Time Traveler

For me, that episode is a lesson in how fallible memory can be. My impression is of watching the slow-speed freeway chase on a little TV with the bailiffs in their office in 4th Division Circuit Court in the Pulaski County Courthouse ... ... except that as of 6/12/94 I hadn't covered the courts in 3 1/2 years, having been a city desk editor since 12/13/90. Perhaps the former scenario occurred on Earth-2.

Crazy how race just clouded people's judgment in the OJ affair.

I believe the fascination with the OJ case and trial was the catalyst for Court Tv and ID Tv . Before that event we never saw shows chronicling crimes like we do now.

I want to take a moment to share some positive news.
After a prolonged pm debate with a mod at the new CBR, one of the higher-ups (I don't know which) apparently stepped in and decreed that I am allowed to continue to advertise for the CCF over there in my signature space.
That may not seem like much to those of you who have had some very negative experiences over there as of late, but it shows that someone at CBR is aware of our community and respects it. Up to this point, we've been operating without any knowledge of what CBR thought of our new home and whether there might be troubles in the future if, for example, we attempted to quote from an old post that was technically CBR's property. For the moment, we appear to be in good-standing and, considering how frequently bannings have been occurring as of late with no questions asked, the fact that a higher up explicitly stepped in to defend us really says something.
This is not an invitation to get into a huge discussion/rant about how CBR has changed, once again, and it's not an expectation to begin universally praising the site either. It's an acknowledgement that they acknowledge and respect us. And since we now know they've been checking out this forum, I think that makes it more important than ever that we not fall into Anti-CBR rants. Let's remain in good-standing with them.
Thanks, everyone, for being a community that's worthy of such respect.

That's good to know... I frequently send PMs about us to people that actually post about classic comics in 'Classic and Collected', so it's nice to know I'm not breakin' the law (not that it would stop me...)

I just saw a story on TV about vinyl record sales. It appears that they have tripled in the last few years. The younger generation is seeking out something that they can touch. Maybe there's still hope for Comics to remain on paper.

Hate to bust your bubble because we share the same dream, but as I notated somewhere else on this board, the gain in vinyl is coming from the decline in CD format and the total physical music media % continues to decline.

And, as I pointed out to you then, it's not so simple a duality . CDs were the one-stop shop for music two decades ago. They were somewhat convenient and somewhat high quality. CDs are being replaced, because they truly are obsolete now, with a duality of options that are better optimized to a listener's needs. Listeners are buying a combination of mp3s (more convenient than a CD) and vinyl (more quality than a CD) rather than settling for a format that doesn't fully satisfy either need. Continuing to make this analogous to comics, we may soon see the day where trade paperback sales diminish as fans go to e-comics when they want a cheaper and more efficient means of keeping up with their general pull lists and floppy copies when they want to experience a story or run they truly love with the highest quality reading experience.

Shax-I'm not arguing the points you make for they very well can be true. Its the concept of physical media in general that will continue to diminish. Its happening everywhere-music,book publishing, movies (even with the blu ray introduction) etc. Streaming video,E-books,digital files of all sorts continue to grab bigger and bigger shares in the marketplace. Its ingrained in the younger generation. And technology historically always improves and gets cheaper so this dogital trend will continue to grow as well I don't want to rehash the arguement because like I said before I share your sentiments. But if I was going to put my money someplace,it wouldn't be in a physical media store. In fact, how many have opened lately vs how many have closed
