Silver linings in dark clouds ... though of course I'm generally more one to look for dark linings in silver clouds ...
Friends in my local FB group started a GoFundMe account yesterday afternoon to raise $1K for me for security doors, burlgar bars, etc. They later raised it to $2K.
That target has been hit as I typed this.
Another friend from the same group wanted to solicit friends to pay for the $340 for Winston's autopsy.
Now also paid.
I'm overwhelmed. Overwhelmed.

Because there's never any crime after 4. That line reminded me of something: The rain may never fall till after sundown. By eight, the morning fog must disappear. In short, there'll never be a better place, you see for happy-ever-aftering than in Montgomery(Apologies to Alan Jay Lerner)

In all the bad that happens in the world it's so comforting to see people rise up for good. The response time and generosity is amazing.

Hmmm. Anyone out there have any idea of how much money I might need for my own personal Fortress of Solitude?

Maybe you can rig the door so that if opened without you authorization it loudly plays an audio recording of a shotgun click-clacking. I don't care how big and bad you are, that sound will send anyone running. Sorry for your troubles, but glad people are coming through.

I was thinking about suggesting reinforcing your house to repel intruders, but I wasn't sure if you'd be able to afford it. It's sad having to turn your home into a fortress (hopefully it won't remain one of solitude), but if it keeps the little rodents out, at least that's something. However, please remember that setting traps to catch (electrocute, skewer, impale, roast, etc) invaders is technically illegal. Check with Slam, but I'm pretty sure.
Also, after you install your security upgrades, don't forget to tell your insurance company. It should get you a discount on your home owners insurance.

Perusing the UK election results, I noticed that the Conservative MP from Brighton Kemptown is named Simon Kirby.
Is there any chance that his parents were fans of American comic books by Simon & Kirby?
