As the staff is not currently considering deleting either thread (for reasons I outlined earlier), the point is moot and not worth anyone getting angry over. Both are problematic in their own ways. Both have the potential to offend and alienate. Neither will be removed unless they clearly violate site rules as no one here has any desire to be a fascist. If you do not agree with these threads, do not participate in them. And while they will be a turn-off to some potential members, hopefully anyone interested in the other content we have here will be able to look past them. They're nothing worse than you would find in any other online community and, I would argue, actually much tamer. I have never posted in there would much rather talk about comics and what is going on in my and others lives

I'm somewhere between Millennial and Gen X in terms of age, and I have a smart phone, and while I think they're neat toys, I think tablets are completely redundant and unnecessary, and unless I had gobs of cash with nothing better to do, I just don't have any interest or need to spend the money. If money and time were functionally limitless, though, I'd probably buy the highest resolution iPad possible and sign up for Marvel's digital comics subscription as it would be the most convenient way to read stories I'd be interested enough in reading but don't care to own. Also, we have a cheap Kindle tablet we use for movies and games for the kiddo on long trips, but otherwise, I just don't see a strong enough value compared to the cost.
For me, I'd rather watch movies on my TV with a streaming device. If I'm working or using the computer, I'd rather have the keyboard and larger screen of my laptop. I mean, with the immense popularity of tablets, clearly mine isn't the majority opinion, but I feel like it's filling the gap no one really asked for to be filled. I think the hybrid tablets like the Microsoft Surface are bloody brilliant though. That, to me, is a sweet value, because it's a full computer and keyboard for when I want to work, but I can just detach and use the tablet to watch movies on a plane or something. I can't afford a good one right now, though, but if/when disposable money and free time are plentiful, that's what I would be more drawn to.
My two cents.

Thanks to the ever astute MDG I'm now familiar with the art of Todd Schorr. And that's a good thing.

Didn't there used to be a thread to talk about art in general and artists we liked?
At the risk of complaining...because I love this site...the search function here is abominable.

It's 60 degrees right now, one degree from a record high for NYC. Tomorrow's forecast has been updated for the worse- 8 inches to a foot of snow
Running low on Bosco. Otherwise I'm prepared

So 2 days ago, my father passed away at age 62, following suffocation and a cardiac arrest. February 10th is my birthday.
Everything is shit right now.
I've been struggling with this for the past 50 of so hours, it's the first time I've lost someone this close to me. And it's only now starting to dawn on me that my dad is never coming back.
The funeral is next Monday.

My deepest sympathies Mormel. I can relate since my Mom passed away a few months ago. Cherish your older relatives while they are still with us

Let us know what's on the agenda We haven't solidified our agenda for when we're in the city, but we're definitely going to see Wall Street and the World Trade Center Memorial. Personally, I really want to visit 42nd Street to see where all the old grindhouse theaters used to be.

The Elmos and The Spider-Men who'll want you to take a picture with them and then harrass you for $20. Or the con-men who'll want you to buy their CDs of their music and you'll find out their blank. And I'm sure you'll want to check out the topless painted ladies who call themselves performance artists. They are allowed to be topless but only on one or two blocks. Ya gotta love it
