The man needs a rest, and he shall have it Oh, I didn't mean to move things along, just to save him some tiem when he can get to it. Seems silly to have him going through hundreds of posts just for the titles of our entries, which we could all send him when the time is right. |

It's not a near-miss, but 3 or 4 items on my list probably would have been anime if I had thought to include them.. certainly Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood would have been #1, and Cowboy Bebop would have been in there somewhere.
Dini-verse Justice League and Superman just missed, as did V for Vendetta and the recent Dark Knight Returns cartoon.. that'd probably been the next few for me.
300, Dick Tracy, and Flash Gordon may have snuck in if I had thought of them, but since I didn't I guess it's just as well.
Netflix Luke Cage was very, very close.. and might be on a future list... II haven't really given it enough thought to place it in historical context yet.

Time Jump, the cartoon version of Valerian and Laureline was a close call; but, I haven't seen enough of it, vs the comics. Same for the Diabolik cartoon. however, there is one that captured the comic well: Tiger Mask. Tiger Mask told the tale of Naoto Date, an orphan who became a villainous pro wrestler, under the training of the tiger Cave organization. When a child tells him he wants to be a villain like him, he is startled. He revisits the orphanage where he grew up and sees the kids there, plus a pair of old friends. He also sees that they owe money. He donates money to help the orphanage and starts to have a change of heart. He begins to change ihis tactics in the ring, so that the orphans will see a hero. he is encouraged by Japanese wrestling legend Giant Baba and he incurs the wrath of the Tiger Cave, who send opponent after opponent to break him down, as he was supposed to donate 10% of his earnings to them, forever. He overcomes each one, with more and more vilent matches, culminating in a massive battle against the ultimate Tiger Cave fighter. Along the way, he fights Black Tiger, his own brother. The cartoon captures things well and the series included actual pro wrestlers like Baba and Americans Jack Brisco and Freddie Blassie and the Destroyer (Dick Beyer). It proved massively popular and the cartoon followed. It is very faithful and violent. Some years later, a living Tiger Mask was born, portrayed by Satoru Sayama.  Tiger Mask had legendary battles, in the early 80s, against the likes of Dynamite Kid, Kuniaki Kobayashi, Villano 3, and Mark "Rollerball" Rocco (as Black Tiger). He simultaneously held the WWF and NWA World Jr Heavyweight Championships, until the NWA took back their title, after he won the WWF title, in Japan (yeah, it was scripted; but, there were still politics). he eventually left; but, there were later Tiger Masks: Mitsurahu Misawa, Koji Kanemoto, and Yoshihiro Yamazaki. A second Tiger Mask cartoon debuted when Misawa took over the role and a movie came out a few years ago, changing him into an underground MMA fighter. A newer anime, Tiger Mask W, appeared in 2016, with a new living portrayer. The character also spawned a phenomena in Japan. Anonymous benefactors began leaving gifts to orphanages, including money, school backpacks, and other items, with only the name Naoto Date left behind. These benefactors had been inspired to do good works by Tiger Mask. |

When 2016's theme was announced and the rules were laid down, I knew a lot of the cinematic Marvel Universe would be represented, as well as the modern superhero TV shows. I purposely stayed away from them for that reason. I wanted to showcase 12 shows that I knew some would be on there, but give some love to some really innovative and fun properties. For a time I was going to post 12 animated series, but that would've been way to easy.
Last 12 items on my list to get the cut:

I only had one cut - I never warmed to Batman or Superman the animated series, and Justice League didn't do much for me... But there was one episode written by Warren Ellis and featuring the Atom and EVERYBODY ELSE that I just loved. Also there was an Episode of Parks and Recreation (probably my second favorite sit-com) where a guy dresses up like Batman, but I chose the episode of my first favorite sit-com where a guy dresses up like Batman. |

Hey, gang, wanted to let you know there is going to be a few weeks' delay in my posting the wrap-up and statistics thread for TDCC '16. As those of you who follow me on Facebook already know, I'm experiencing some serious dental issues that make it nearly impossible to type or do much of anything else on the computer (just writing this post is causing me pain). Until I have the problem resolved, I will be, well, not offline but pretty much completely incommunicado. I'll be able to see your posts, messages, etc., but I won't be responding. This is affecting my ability to work on the book as well, so I'll be trying to get my butt into a dentist ASAP (not an easy task when your only dental coverage is Medicaid). In the meantime, feel free to use this thread to list your alternate choices and near misses for this year's event. Sorry again for the unanticipated delay and I'll see you on the other side. Cei-U! A near-miss for me was the Batman TV show, which I liked more as an adult than I did as an 11-year-old when it premiered.
Also Mickey's Christmas Carol. Good memories of a very nice little adaptation. (I think it would have counted.); the Dick Tracy B-movies from the 1940s; and Jungle Jim movies.
