Certain covers always jumped out at me as a kid (actually, still do) and I'm at a loss to think of any other genre within a genre than the ol' 'Good Guy Points a Finger at another Good Guy from Beyond the Grave' that really made want to get to a comic right away as much as this. I suppose it's the fact that such an image conveys so much instantly - 1. Good Guy has died. 2. How? 3. What do you mean another Good Guy's responsible?
Who else is with me and are there any that I've missed? Did Marvel ever get in on this?
And one with The Joker from Batman 140

Well, the other Titans aren't dead, but they sure look it, but it's a beaut, and one of shaxper 's favorite covers, so... Phantom Stranger takes it to the entire JLA...

Superman #186. I bought this one off the spinner rack in 1966.

Not a cover but spooky nonetheless. Yeah, Wonder Man's costume always gives me the heebie-jeebies too!

I picked this one up about 25 years ago and it really served to cement my love for Silver Age Superman. Not only does it include the scene depicted on the cover, but also tosses in the ghosts of Jor-El, Jesse James, Captain Kidd, and Queen Isabella. And before anyone wonders how one's supposed to reconcile the fact that Superman and Clark Kent each get a ghost of their own despite being the same person, the story has a pretty cool scene where the two merge once their identity has been revealed. I can only imagine how great it would have been to buy this new, Red Oak!

Now this one I did buy when it came out. Sad that modern age sensibilities had changed so much by the time this issue rolled around that we didn't get a plethora of 'The Ghost of Robin' Silver Aged style stories after Death in the Family. Still, a great chapter in a great storyline.
