This entire run you're reviewing is my favorite run of one of my favorite Marvel characters. Nothing else PAD has done has been as good as this run IMO. Nice artistic line up as well. I personally can't stand Todd McFarlane, but his Hulk run was pretty decent. I thought Todd was a better fit on Hulk than on Spider-Man. McFarlane's wildly exaggerated anatomy made more sense for a character like The Hulk. He's not supposed to look human. Plus McFarlane's ego hadn't achieved cruising altitude yet, so It's also possible he was trying a little harder and not resting on his laurels.

IMO Batman & the Hulk always had the best artists work on their books at some point. More than other characters.

Looking forward to your reviews. Incredible Hulk #332 was the first comic I bought when I decided to collect comics and follow my favorite characters (Though the Mantlo/Buscema/Mignola Crossroads saga in 1985 was the first Hulk comics I read in terms of attempting to follow a storyline). Peter David run is an absolute classic.

I personally can't stand Todd McFarlane, but his Hulk run was pretty decent. It is certainly my favorite Hulk and always will be. I liked the overall day/night concept of the gray Hulk, making it almost like a werewolf curse, rather than Banner's will being able to contain the Hulk. And Joe Fixit is my favorite persona of the gray Hulk himself. (And Hulk drinking the entire contents of a liquor store, so Banner would be comatose in the morning was great.) To be honest I'd have to think on what all I have read of Peter David's work, though I know I have read more than Hulk. I didn't seek it out for him, but because I saw the green Hulk return to Vegas as Fixit, later in the series, that came out when I was getting into comics. Jeff Purves is my favorite of the lineup. I really wish he had done more in the series than he did. As to McFarlane, I prefered him on Spiderman myself. Maybe it was the contrast in the other artists in the run in trying to make the Hulk even more grotesque looking than anyone else that his stood out so badly to me.

LOL
I'd forgotten about him drinking that. Kind of surprised that got past the CCA !
To be fair, his X-Factor was pretty good too.

Man, I was taking a look at my digital copies of the Incredible Hulk during the Peter David/Dale Keown run and I'd forgotten how good Dale Keown was. He's always been one of my favorite Hulk artists; he was like a perfect mesh of John Byrne and Alan Davis. If he did more work at Marvel and DC after the Hulk he would have been a megastar.

Nothing else PAD has done has been as good as this run IMO. I've never read his Hulk run, so I couldn't really comment, but I will say that "The Death of Jean DeWolff" in ASM was pretty awesome. Also, PAD's mid-2000s run on Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man was tons of fun.

I've never read The Death of Jean DeWolff but have always heard great things about it.
PAD is a pretty good writer.

He really was. It was the tail end of his run and the start of Liam Sharp's that was going on when I was buying Hulk off the shelf and I like both of their takes on him.

Liam Sharp is on Wonder Woman now doing the best work of his career IMO.

From where I don't know, probably got them in a neighborhood trade. Must say though, I still love Jeff Purves' work, a very distinctive style which suited the Grey Hulk rather well.

I'm sure some of the lushness here is from Sean Parson's inks as well.

Liam Sharp is on Wonder Woman now doing the best work of his career IMO. Death's Head II was I think where Sharp really shined. His best to date for me. But that WW above is pretty damned good. I have Marvel on my list of soon to read. This is the second time in like a week someone has mentioned this as good. I just have two issues that Thanos appeared in and Starlin did the art, and that's why I bought them. And I like Jeff Purves art so much. Really wished he would have done more, if not for whatever reason he didn't. He drew the perfect Fixit. Though I do like Dale Kneown's (sp?) green Hulk returning to Vegas as Fixit.
