So, as The Captain pointed out, being at work, he's been unable to post to the Classic Comics Cover Contest due to his workplace conditions.
It's been allowed and no one has objected until today.
I was on the road driving and unable to post from my phone though I knew what cover I wanted to post, thus, I called a placeholder to hold that cover until I got home to upload it.
We haven't officially addressed this until today, so, what does the community think ?
I call for clarification !

Personally, with two threads devoted to rules clarifications now, I feel we're taking this contest entirely too seriously, but maybe that's just me. I've never once won, and I don't really care, nor do I feel the need to cry foul if I see someone doing something that I wouldn't do myself. I still participate because it's fun.

I have no problems with members who at work can enter the contest and place a cover/fanzine/prozine of any (placeholders) kind at all. I understand of the problems that they have at work.

I voted "yes". I think it's OK for regular, long-standing contest participants who may sometimes have legitimate extenuating circumstances to "claim" a particular cover...as long as they then post that cover, and not some other cover.

It's obviously fun, and competitive.
The Captain had used this option, and no one had said anything.
Now it's been called out and I think it's best to get this settled so a dust up doesn't occur again.
BTW, FWIW, I've chosen a different cover to allow use for that member who cried foul.

Well, I found a cover I liked for this week's contest, but couldn't post it from my phone. So I waited till I got home, and of course somebody had beaten me to it. (Ironically enough, hondo with his second choice.) So yeah, I'm okay with placeholders.

As we speak there are members of the CCF in front of Trump Towers holding signs against changes in the Cover Contest.

Seriously, the Captain has done this before and no-one even blinked. I wonder if anyone who's ever claimed a cover in this manner has actually won? My thinking is that when people fight over a cover, it's liable to be an obvious or well known cover and not voted on much.

People are taking this fun little contest far too seriously.

They should submit a letter from their supervisor to foxley

I really don't see what the problem is.

I voted "yes", but honestly, I don't care. It was a way for me to get the cover I knew I wanted, but it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things.
If a supposedly fun little diversion is going to cause this much lawyering (no offense, Slam), maybe it isn't really worth it.

This is getting silly now. I don't have a dog in this fight because I rarely, if ever, participate in the Cover Contest, but this fun game has been running for years, both here and at the old CBR classic comics forum, and it worked just fine as it was. Post a comic cover in the thread or don't. If someone's already picked a cover you were gonna use, then just pick another cover. It really doesn't matter.
This shouldn't even be a competitive thing! It might be called a "contest", but really it's just a fun excuse to showcase some cool comic covers together as a community. If you're feeling competitive against your fellow forum members over a stupid little cover contest then you need to step away from the computer for a bit, I would suggest.

I brought this up because I usually post two times a week, for the contest entry and for the vote. This is the first time I saw the placeholder, as I usually post a day or after the contest's been up. By then, whatever "placeholder" is gone and the cover is up. Like the person, I'm at work as well but I was able to post without any restrictions. It shouldn't be a courtesy. If you're hellbent on posting said cover, you post. Work internet restrictions shouldn't be a reason why you have to call your shots. If you want to play, go to a computer that gives you access. If you can't, you're f**ked...
Sorry to bring the opposition to a reality, but placeholders don't hold water to me.

There is an urgency for some to be the "first " to post. I remember a few months ago a winner wanted to wait till later to post the new subject and a few others got irate that he wanted to keep them in suspense. I don't find the placeholder to be a major issue. But confessor is right, let's not get upset over a fun contest.
