I haven't done this in a while. But today is Guy Clark's birthday. He is one of my favorite performers and I consider him to easily be one of the top five living song-writers.

Bryan Adams is one of the many things Canada should apologize to the world for. Just visited his own studio complex in Vancouver and I can tell you it's no joke. It even has Dave Ogylvie from Skinny Puppy working there! (but yeah, his music... )

Canada has a long and unfortunate tradition of producing bland, commercially successful pop and "rawk" music, Bryan Adams being a typical example. Loverboy was another one. Middle-of-the-road in the worst possible sense of the term: so generic and inoffensive it's offensive.

But they did give us Joni Mitchell, so we'll let 'em off for all the rest of that musical kak they've exported over the years.

Morbid curiosity:
David Bowie knew that the Blackstar album he was recording would be his last, diagnosed with cancer, and it proved true George Harrison, diagnosed with brain cancer, also knew his end was near when recording his finale Brainwashed
What other artists knew they were dying from incurable disease and their album was meant to be, and proven to be, their finale?

Good question. One possibility that comes to mind is Johnny Cash - did he know his days were numbered when he made his last album?

I summon forth the almighty wizard from the underworld, Dan, to handicap a CD I recently borrowed and downloaded (but not listened to) from my local library.
Its title:US vs UK Punk from Sanctuary Records
The UK Lineup 1. Anarchy In The UK - Sex Pistols
2. Teenage Kicks - The Undertones
3. Neat Neat Neat - The Damned
4. What Do I Get? (Live) - Buzzcocks
5. Oh Bondage Up Yours! - X-Ray Spex
6. London Lady (Live) - The Stranglers
7. One Hundred Punks - Generation X
8. Hersham Boys - Sham 69
The US Lineup 9. Beat On The Brat - Ramones
10. Personality Crisis (Live) - New York Dolls
11. Sonic Reducer - Dead Boys
12. Born To Lose (Remix) - Johnny Thunders
13. I'm Bored - Iggy Pop
14. We Got The Neutron Bomb - The Weirdos
15. TV Party - Black Flag
16. Institutionalized - Suicidal Tendencies
Who are the winners of these matchups? Who would be the ultimate last-mohawk-standing? There are no rules, each match must be short, fast and furious.
Is this enough to entice our esteemed gentleman from the south to break his vow of silence?

Most of those bands are about as "punk" as Avril Lavigne.
