CrimebusterI liked the All-Star Squadron Cover and it's one of my favorite and I didn't know that he did that cover. Thanks for pointing it out to all of us here.

Buckler will be missed. He was a creative artist who made the heroes and villains look simply grand and spectacular without feeling the need to redesign them all. My 1st Buckler's were with his run in Fantastic Four and then Deathlok. With those 2 fueling his "birth" as an artist he quickly became the go to guy of the 80's for covers, series fill in and for continuing series after other artists left. All-Star Squadron has his and Ordway's talents to help it's initial appeal and growth.
He will forever be known for Deathlok and All-Star Squadron and his Superman vs Shazam stuff.

I kind of liked that he would use a sort of Buscema-style for the Averngers, then turn around and use a more Kirbyesque approach on the FF. But what I'll always remember him for with great respect is the Deathlok series in Astonishing Tales. Doug Moench supplied the script but by all accounts it was really Rich Buckler's baby - his concept, mostly his stories, and of course his artwork, ably assisted by Klaus Janson. One of the great, short-lived gems of 70s Marvel. After looking at some of his Avengers work online I'm reminded that he also put a bit of Neal Adams into his style on that book on occasion.

Died of cancer at 68. Too young ! Sorry for his passing but glad he's no longer suffering. He's very well known for his work at Marvel, mostly for his creation Deathlok, but also working on the Avengers, Black Panther, and the Fantastic Four. His work caught my eye in the early 80's on Archie's Red Circle titles including The Mighty Crusaders, and I have a soft spot for his Bronze Age DC work including DC Comics Presents, World's Finest, Kobra, the Secret Society of Super-Villains, Star Hunters, and especially All-Star Squadron. He co-created along with David Anthony Kraft, Demon Hunter, for the short lived Atlas Comics of the mid 70's, able to summon occult weapons from other dimensions to fight the "xenogeneis" of demons overtaking Earth. After Atlas folding, the two basically tweaked the character slightly and created an extremely similar character at Marvel who became a member of the Defenders, Devil Slayer.

When I told my brother about his passing, he told me that he would come into his post office and mail things from his window. My bro is a window clerk for the USPS.
