Batman Episode (1) … First Season – The Bookworm Turns Original Air Date - April 20, 1966 Major Villain - Roddy McDowell as the Bookworm Important Guest StarsFrancine York as Lydia Limpet My Thoughts about the ShowI just watched this show and it's opens up with a possible murder on Commissioner Gordon's life as he attended a bridge dedication as one of many city dignitaries. Both Batman and Robin are very much aware of this and his death will not go unnoticed as the Bookworm hired a specialist in order to fool the Police and the Caped Crusaders. They raced to the Batmobile and headed to Gotham City to investigate this crime and discovered that the Commissioner is very much alive and he was giving a ticket by an officer that goes by a badge of 1887 of which Chief O'Hara claimed there wasn't an officer by that badge number and deduces that the officer was employed by the Bookworm. Moment later, Lydia Limpet places a book in the Batmobile and seconds later - Batman was notified by one of his devices and the cover remains intact. Then, later on Batman and Robin in the Batcave pondering what the Bookworm is up to and figure out what is going to happen yet and yet the Bookworm decided on that police to steal the Declaration of Independence or thought he would. Many things are happening things at this point. Later on, Batman finally figure out what is happening here based on Lydia telling the truth in the Batcave. Then a short Bat Fight in the alley near the Projector that Batman and Robin discovered. Couple of Firsts in this Show. First Person has entered the Batcave and she doesn't know it and our first window celebrity ... Jerry Lewis! Here's the clip ... after returning Lydia back to where she was located, Robin read a History Journal and the tables turn onto Robin as Lydia informed the Bookworm that Robin has been subdued by a beautiful moll and Robin has been abducted ... BatsLots of going on, and many subplots involving hidden clues and the Bookworm is one of those clever villains that makes you think and that's why this was an excellent show.

Batman Episode (1) … First Season – While Gotham City Burns Original Air Date - April 21, 1966 Major Villain - Roddy McDowell as the Bookworm Important Guest StarsFrancine York as Lydia Limpet My Thoughts about the Show
As Batman searches for additional clues and a patrol car driven by Chief O'Hara alerted Batman that the clues sent him to the wrong directions and new clues being provided by Chief - Means that the clock is a He and the Bookworm meant the Wayne Memorial Clock Tower and that's where Robin being held at. Batman succeeded saving Robin with the Chief's assistance. At Bookworm, Limpet heard nothing from Robin and it was soft as a Nightingale and the Bookworm was mad and developed another plan to put away the Dynamic Duo. So he went to Wayne Manor to steal a rare cookbook and developed a trap for Batman at the same time. Of which he did. So it is the Cookbook that the Bookworm is following with. Batman and Robin are trapped in that Giant Cookbook and the Bookworm said "Curiosity kills the Bat" and Gotham City Police are working feverishly trying to save the Dynamic Duo and Alfred as a creature of habit saved the Duo by tending the Batcave while Batman trying to contact him and discovered a way out before the Gotham City Police open that monstrous cookbook that the Bookworm managed to trap them. Way to Go Alfred! Traveling across the town in his Bookmobile ... his moll Limpet and the Bookworm was talking about their latest plan and unknown to them - Batman and Robin heard everything and went to Morganbilt Library of where priceless old Bibles and works of Shakespeare inside it from an impregnable vault and used the Batbeam to open it. They were surprised to see the Dynamic Duo and a quick Bat Fight was in order and the Duo finally captured the Bookworm and his Printer Devils. BatsGreat show and very high pace of action and drama. Excellent Script and very well made. One of the Better Two Parter in the 1st Season alone.

Roddy McDowell made what looks like a pretty lame character really work. Shame that it was Bookworm's only appearance.
Francine York was gonna out someone's eyes out! WHAAARGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Always thought it was a little kinky that they don't untie Mis Limpet in the bookmobile.

Gotta love Alfred. He is my favorite supporting character in comics. Another original villain for the TV series. Roddy did an awesome job. And another beautiful woman. It seems to me that woman were prettier back then than today.
And speaking of pretty women @mechagodzilla ...I love your avatar of Barbara Eden!

That's my favorite outfit of Barbara Eden on that show ... and I'll leave it up for a day or two. Alfred as a character for that show was a real trooper and he's doesn't get the credit that he deserved. I wished that Roddy made another appearance ... drats!

Batman Episode (1) … First Season – Death in Slow Motion Original Air Date - April 27, 1966 Major Villain - Frank Gorshin as the Riddler Important Guest StarsSherry Jackson as Pauline Francis X. Bushman as Mr. Van Jones My Thoughts about the ShowAll open up with Mr. Van Jones and several other guests enjoying the last day of the Silent Movie Festival and all the sudden a troupe of Silent Film Players disguised as Riddler and his gang and everyone was laughing and enjoying themselves. Not, to Mr. Van Jones while this all this going on; the Riddler went into the Box Office and steals $200 from the cashier there and this prompt the Commissioner Gordon to call on the services of the Dynamic Duo. While several clues are present at the time and they all gather their wits and discovered that the Riddler is after a fat bread of monies at the biggest bakery in town and that's led another clue as well sending the Dynamic Duo to an endless strings of wackiness by the Riddler using Comedy Slapstick Movies as the base of his crimes against Gotham City. Famous Sleeping Nut Pies employed by the Riddler here ... I just loved this suit here. Upon arriving there, the Riddler and his gang started filming and to record the silliness of the Dynamic Duo as unwilling stars at the Bakery itself of which the Riddler plants another clue to both Batman and Robin. All points out to the biggest Library the Baker Street Library of which Aunt Harriet visit so often checking out books and the comedy begins as another big book being fallen on the Dynamic Duo while the Riddler and his rotten gang enjoying seeing the clip over and over again. It was glee for the Riddler! The big book of Silent Films - the Riddler has several more clues inside it. Of which the Dynamic Duo took it to the Batcave to figure those out with help of Alfred. At Mr. Van Jones estate, all the Gotham City Dignitaries were there including Commissioner Gordon and Chief O'Hara and Batman trying to stop the citizens from drinking lemonade that was spiked with Temper Tonic and the nuttiest fighting scenes in the first season in Batman was underway and seeing Women fighting Women and Men fighting Men and looks like the whole world gone bananas! It was wild, very wild melee indeed! Drinking Spiked Lemonade here ... While this going on Pauline as Little Bo Beep was outside of Van Jones Residence altered Robin with several other clues of the nuttiest comedy capers of all times ... and using that cane to put Robin out for cold. Then Robin finally captured and Batman frantically calling Robin with no luck at all ... and Robin is now in the hands of the Prince of Conundrums - the Riddler at a Lumberyard in Gotham City. Robin in the Mercy of the Riddler here. BatsThis really tops of them all and I certainly enjoyed watching it today and hopes to have the 2nd part of this crazy show done by Sunday at the latest. This really an amazing show to watch and I consider it a stellar show at the end of the 1st Season of Batman.

Batman Episode (1) … First Season – The Riddler's False Notion Original Air Date - April 28, 1966 Major Villain - Frank Gorshin as the Riddler Important Guest StarsSherry Jackson as Pauline Francis X. Bushman as Mr. Van Jones My Thoughts about the ShowIn order to save Robin, Batman at the Lumber Yard captured Pauline and Pauline wouldn't bulge and answer that Batman wanted to hear and decided to take a gamble to take Pauline to the Batcave to drill her and asked Commissioner Gordon to come along to ensure that no other efforts to save Robin's life by drilling Pauline in this due process of law. Gordon agrees and decided to tag along and Batman asked O'Hara to get some Men to take Pauline and Commissioner Gordon to the Batcave along with Bat Awake. At the Batcave, he employed a mask system that extracts truth by the imbalance of Oxygen in the bloodstream of which the beaker is activated by the breath of the subject ... if red he/she is telling the truth ... if clear he/she is telling false notion and that's whole moral behind Pauline's abduction to the Batcave. Gordon was awestruck seeing the Batcave for the first time and was impressed by the futuristic design and workmanship by the Dynamic Duo. Batman explains the procedures to Commissioner Gordon here. They both figure out where Robin was at and Batman races to save him after dropping off Pauline in his hands and speeds to Robin ... Riddler left more clues and all pointing to the Chessman Building of where Robin on top of the building based on Spectacles that Harold Lloyd the great silent movie star of which the Riddler is concerned with and Robin's life on the edge of his seat here. Hang on Robin, Batman on his way to save you! As soon the Riddler sends Robin to his doom, Batman ordered to grab the Batarang by his teeth and gradually pulls him to safety and with more clues pointing to the train the El Chiefin (spelling isn't good enough) and Robin advises Commissioner Gordon of this nature from the Batmobile. Calling for additional instructions ... Then, at Van Jones place - the Riddler handed him a silent movie that he just made to collect the $100,000 that both Van Jones and the Riddler agrees to and soon he put the film into the safe - the Riddler attempts to rob Van Jones's priceless film collection and Batman showed up placing his dreaded shadow of a huge bat to scare off the Riddler and his rotten gang. A quick and fast paced Bat Fight is in order and finally the Riddler was captured and Batman said you are embarked a long picture - entitled "Up the River" and the crime spree of the Riddler comes the end. BatsIt was a great show from start to finish and loaded with suspense, excitement, and high drama too. At the end, it was Aunt Harriet's Birthday and Bruce arrange his good friend Batman to greet her on her birthday and both Batman and Robin kissed her on her cheeks and they told Aunt Harriet that they have a pressing engagement to attend to and can't stay. So, it was a fun way to end it. Up next, the final two shows of the 1st Season ... it is up against the Penguin in Fine Finny Fiends first and followed by Batman Makes the Scenes and these two shows will pop up sometimes next week either Monday and or Tuesday.

Batman Episode (1) … First Season – Fine Finny Fiends Original Air Date - May 4, 1966 Major Villain - Burgess Meredith as the Penguin Important Guest StarsJulie Gregg as Finella My Thoughts about the ShowIn the opening act of the show shows that Alfred is out shopping for cut-rate caviar for the multi-millionaire dinner that Bruce is a major part of that affair. He wants to buy a pound of caviar per guests and wished to purchase 12 pounds for the event for the dinner of which he was a majordomo of this event and the Penguin men finally abducted him and subject him to harsh drilling forcing him to reveal the location of the so called award dinner. While all this going on, some passing by recognize the whole scenario and alerted the Police and at Police Headquarters and several signs pointing the Penguin by Chief O'Hara's deduction and that forces them to call upon the services of the Dynamic Duo and while this going on ... the Penguin forces his hand to use the Penguin Box to get Alfred to reveal the location of the so called award dinner. Alfred was brutally forced to ... He was later released and Commissioner informed Batman at the Store of which Robin found a handbill, and therefore they raced back to the Batcave to questioned Alfred and Batman noticed a twitch on Alfred and placed Alfred into a Bat Memory Bank on him and Batman showed him some pictures ... of William Dozier and Howie Horwitz - Major Producers and Film Distribution Players of the Batman - Dozier owns a Production Company in his name. A fiendishly and diabolical way to extract information! At a rehearsal dinner and another important clue showed up unexpectedly as one of the millionaires accidently bite into a treat and discovered a fish hook and so another one prompts Bruce and Dick to head the Batcave to figure out what next and discovered one of the pier is being operated by Knott A Fish a clever way of the Penguin to disguise himself and the Dynamic Duo raced there to confront the Penguin and his rotten gang. After a crazy Bat Fight and the Penguin was totally prepared for them using all their dirty tricks to subdue them and hooked them up and all that. It was a rotten deal for the Dynamic Duo. Rotten way to go here So at the end of the show ... the Penguin puts the Dynamic Duo into a room full of colorful balloons and it was designed to suck the air out to cut off the Dynamic Duo permanently ... BatsI just can't give it 5 Bats because of the rotten way Penguin captured the Dynamic Duo of the total preparation of using everything that was thrown into them and using giant fish hooks to snare them. Plus of the fact it was too over-scripted and all that and I also find it odd for Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson left the Rehearsal Dinner so suddenly without telling Aunt Harriet and Alfred of their whereabouts. It was those two things that brought it down to 4 Bats.

About Julie GreggShe had a small part in Batman the Movie as a nightclub singer ... a bit of trivia that I know about and I wanted to share some pictures of her in that movie back in 1966. In this picture above you showing Bruce (Batman) Wayne courting Kitka (Catwoman) being played by Lee Meriwether here and it's also showed Julie Gregg here as well. I wished the picture was better quality and all that. I was surprised to see her in this show.

Batman Episode (1) … First Season – Batman Makes the Scenes Original Air Date - May 5, 1966 Major Villain - Burgess Meredith as the Penguin Important Guest StarsJulie Gregg as Finella My Thoughts about the ShowI just watched this show a mere 15 minutes ago and decided to end 1st Season today and with good riddance. Finella being played by Julie Gregg had the job of monitoring the air gauge that the Penguin wanted to make sure it's reached Butterfly and eventually no air at all. As soon the last balloon bursts; the Penguin was in joyous mood in getting rid of Batman and Robin forever and wanted to establish an alibi to cover his tracks but that was technically incorrect there and that will be covered later. After, thinking of Batman and Robin out of the way ... Batman was playing dead to make sure that Penguin did not check to see if he was dead at all and managed to use the oxygen found in his utility belt and hearing some of the things that the Penguin and his co-horts were saying here. That alone did not covered Penguin's alibi at all. They managed to inform Commissioner Gordon and O'Hara at his office at Gotham Police Headquarters. So, they mapped out a plan to find out when the award dinner is at and the only way to do is to get both Bruce Wayne and Batman's cooperation to flush out the real intent by the rascal by the name of the Penguin here. So, at Wayne Manor - both Bruce Wayne and Batman working with Commissioner Gordon to get all the details straight and sound so that Batman can finally capture the Penguin once and for all. I loved those cool shades that Bruce is wearing at the moment talking to Commissioner Gordon here. Then, later on in the Batcave both Batman and Robin trust Alfred completely (this is a sidetrack moment, but critical one here) and making sure that Alfred revealed the true location of the Multi-Millionaire Award Dinner. Alfred informed the Penguin via phone with a device to make sure that dinner location is revealed to the Penguin while Alfred was singing "Britannia" ... rules the waves and so forth. With Penguin armed with that knowledge and knowing that Miss Natural Resources is the chosen charity - Batman is fully prepared to do battle with the Penguin and his rotten gang of his. Miss Natural Resources Later on, the Penguin gasses Miss Natural Resources along with her agent and all that ... and that cute exchage by Batman and Finella was hand-picked by the Penguin to do the dastardly deed of gunning down all the Multi-Millionaires ... BATMAN: By the way, have you ever popped out of a cake before? FINELLA: No, but I’ve been practicing! The cute exchange here. As soon the Penguin leaves, the Dynamic Duo raced in their super-charged Batmobile to subdue the Penguin with a furious Bat-Fight and the Penguin comforted Finella of the lost of her fur jacket and Penguin gave some of his share of the loot to buy a dozen more and Finella finally learned her lesson that crime does not pay. The Batfight Scenes were good and totally unexpected by the Penguin because Batman and Robin took Anti-Penguin Gas Pills to avert disaster. So later on, the Award Dinner finally took place at Wayne Manor, the loot was restored and everything back to square one. Alfred being courted by two beauties here ... until Aunt Harriet scolded him! BatsIt's still 4 Bats because the Penguin did not set his alibi very well and failed to check on the status of Batman in that Vacuum Tank and all that. It was a good show begin with and I didn't think neither one of them deserved an extra Bat.

First Season of Batman OverI will start 2nd Season shortly in a day or two with some startling revelations about Episodes #35 and #36. Shoot a Crooked ArrowSeptember 7, 1966 Walk the Straight and NarrowSeptember 8, 1966 The 2nd Season open up with Art Carney as the Archer. I have reasons for the startling revelations of these two shows and I've wanted to defend myself for making these statements.
