I too had the board game.
My dad read Mad. My brothers and I read Mad, and Cracked, and sometimes Crazy or Sick.
Really loved National Lampoon later on.
I guess eventually the wheel turns.
Cracked has done a great job of reinventing itself. I think Mad could do the same thing if it were more adult, and had some teeth to it.
I'd love to get my hands on that t-shirt straight jacket.

I read the new--a good choice. Someone who's worked in print comics and (I would think) has developed good working relationships with people.

Yes.
Considering his background, this is good news.
Someone like this, or maybe a smart ass like Evan Dorkin, would be a good fit.
Mad is like the template for smart aleck, whether it's the Atom Age or the 21st century.
Name another iconic brand that's so well known for that same trait.
It just needs the right people, like him, to helm it.

MAD was like Puff, the Magic Dragon:
"A dragon lives forever, but not so little boys Painted wings and giant's rings make way for other toys. One gray night it happened, Jackie Paper came no more And Puff, that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar..."
There just ain't as many Jackie Papers any more.
