Love and Gandalf, both great psychedelic rock bands.

Try the Moving Sidewalks (Billy Gibbons pre-ZZ Top) or Bubble Puppy.

I think few punk rock bands of the era could compete with the sheer musicianship of the Buzzcocks. Take this song from their first record Another Music in a Different Kitchen for example. John Maher's drumming is just insane. The quality of their early song writing is also nearly unparalleled in the genre. For example their single "Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn't've)" from their second album Love Bites (which was also a huge hit on the UK pop charts). The 13th Floor Elevators. Their first record is awesome. So is Roky Erickson's solo stuff. There's this really interesting documentary about him called You're Gonna Miss Me that talks about his music career and being institutionalized. |

There was a head shop called Forever Changes in my home town. I bought some of my first underground comix there.

WNEW FM in New York used the Forever Changes song Alone Again Or signal the top-of-the-hour news reports.They used it for about a decade
Rolling Stone ranked the album #40 for greatest rock album of all time
I went on and on about this group previously but I'll never tire of their music,especially this album

This is a great idea... about a quarter of an hour of Neneh Cherry going through the vinyl albums archive of France's biggest radio station. You get a good idea what growing up as the daughter of a jazz legend must have been like.

WNEW FM in New York used the Forever Changes song Alone Again Or signal the top-of-the-hour news reports.They used it for about a decade Rolling Stone ranked the album #40 for greatest rock album of all time I went on and on about this group previously but I'll never tire of their music,especially this album I was familiar with The Damned's version of the song, but I wasn't aware it was a cover. I'll have to try to hunt down this version and listen to it, since I like the song and a bunch of folks here are speaking so highly of the band. |
