Absolutely loved it and the action REALLY picks up over the last 4-5 episodes. The last 2-3 are straight up brutal. Bernthal is perfect as Castle and I really liked the changes to Russo’s character from the comics. And Ben Barnes does a great job playing him in a sleazy yet charismatic way similar to his character in Westworld. Really hope this stuff between Netflix and Disney doesn’t end up with us not getting a 2nd season. Would be a total damn shame.

I decided to finish the series. It was pretty good. I think I had the most fun watching a Marvel/Netflix series since the first season of Daredevil. Didn't know about the issue with Netflix and Disney. Of course it makes sense that Disney wants a bigger piece of the pie. Maybe a deal can be worked out where the show can still be produced by Netflix and Disney just like the others even if Disney gets their own service. I can't see something like The Punisher streaming on a service that is all Disney.

How I would rank the Marvel Netflix shows so far:
1. The Punisher 2. Daredevil S1 3. Daredevil S2 4. Jessica Jones 5. Luke Cage 6. The Defenders 7. Iron Fist
The only ones I would consider REALLY good are The Punisher and the first season of Daredevil.
Season 2 of Daredevil was bogged down with the Elektra and Hand stuff, Jessica Jones would’ve been completely mediocre without Kilgrave, Luke Cage was a total slog after Cottonmouth was out of the picture, The Defenders was just “meh” from start to finish, and Iron Fist was just a steaming pile of crap.

Damn...part of me wishes that the Punisher could maybe make the leap to one of the Marvel movies. Would love to see him and Captain America do something. Obviously there is the service connection.

3) Daredevil S24) Defenders5) Jessica Jones
6) Luke Cage
7) Iron Fist
The first Daredevil season set the standard for me, which The Punisher has matched. These were great entertainment. Daredevil S2 was very good but it did get a bit boring in parts. The other shows were good but they did have a lot of dull bits in them. Iron Fist being dull for most of the season and apart from setting up The Defenders it doesn't have a lot going for it.

Yeah, I’m almost the complete opposite on these shows compared to the critics. The Punisher is barely hovering above 60% on RT right now with almost every negative review harping on about “excessive gun violence”, which makes no sense to me. Complaining about excessive gun violence in the Punisher is like complaining about excessive water in Aquaman.

"You are a naughty man, a real villain, don't do that again, or else!" ... I'm not sure the series would be that interesting. Although the wimpy powder puff critics might love it.

Part of me wants to see it, but I really don’t want a watered-down, PG-13 Frank Castle. I’d also say that far and away the best Punisher stories are when he’s essentially removed from the Marvel universe of costumed heroes/villains and is going after human traffickers, organized crime outfits and cartels, drug smugglers, etc. If they did some sort of Logan-esque thing disconnected from the main MCU with an R-rating, I’d certainly check it out. Even throw Fury into the mix and let Samuel L. Jackson really off the leash with a Garth Ennis Fury MAX interpretation.

3 in and I'm really enjoying it (apart from the family flahsbacks, which I'm finding a bit wearing) - feels like a return to form after the relatively weak 2nd half od DD2, Cage, the godawful Iron Fist and the largely meh Defenders.

I'm about three episodes in also. Overall it's okay so far.
I'm trying to remember if Castle was a war criminal in the comics also because he sure is in this show.

I'm about three episodes in also. Overall it's okay so far. I'm trying to remember if Castle was a war criminal in the comics also because he sure is in this show. I can’t remember his military background ever really being expanded upon aside from Garth Ennis’ Born miniseries (which is EXCELLENT). There’s a scene in there where a commanding officer arrives at Valley Forge where Castle and his platoon are stationed towards the end of the war and is threatening to shut down the base and expell Castle from the corps. Castle, obsessed with warfare at this point, responds by ultimately luring him to a ridge where the general is killed by sniper fire (Castle covered the “Sniper on Duty” sign). Overall, the whole military/CIA conspiracy theory behind the death of his wife and kids would be my one gripe with the show, even though it was done pretty well. Castle and his family being caught up in a random act of violence is central to his character IMO. It’s why he does what he does, even though Ennis during his MAX run, went in a great direction suggesting that Frank has always had an extremely violent, murderous rage buried deep down and the murder of his wife and kids just gave him the ultimate excuse to unleash it upon the lowest dregs that society has to offer. P.S. There’s also the ongoing Ennis/Parlov mini (Punisher: The Platoon) that details Frank’s first tour in Nam. 3 issues in and it’s great. Then again, everything that Ennis touches that is warfare related is solid gold.

Finished - and I think that's the only Netflix/Marvel series so far that has sustained the 13 episodes without sagging at times. I have to be honest, it was a little predictable at times, but still pretty gripping, and there's a pretty clear set-up for the next series if they make one.

Recently finished watching Netflix's The Punisher series. Incredible show. Rough, gritty, uncompromising, and brutal. It's tough to compare this to the other Marvel Netflix shows since it's got such a different vibe/tone, but it's definitely up there as one of my top 3 favorites - along with DD (both seasons) and Jessica Jones. There are mild SPOILERS below, so please don't continue reading if you haven't finished the series yet - and want to be genuinely surprised.
I've never been in the military or in combat, but my impression here is that this series at least appears to paint a somewhat realistic picture of what happens when some soldiers come back from war & have a difficult time re-adjusting to civilian life because of severe PTSD. So, the storyline involving the disturbed young soldier who came back from overseas was quite poignant and sad, though it obviously didn't excuse his horrific actions. The actor playing this soldier also did a great job playing LHO in another great Netflix series, 11/22/63. It's was interesting that he played similar character in both shows.
Though the whole series was great, to me things really ramped up in the last 4 episodes - starting with the soldier's attack on the hotel (trying to take out the congressman), which led directly up to the finale.
My favorite sequence in the whole series was when the mercenaries (on Billy Russo's team) invaded the basement/bunker that Frank & Micro had been holed up, and then were subsequently taken out by Frank (who had set them up) - who seemed to do so without even breaking a sweat.
One of the most difficult scenes to watch was when the young soldier was standing in the meat locker & counting down to the end, while The Punisher stood outside & understandably encouraged him.
Looking forward, I agree that it will be interesting to see where the character goes from here. He's avenged his family & is obviously at a loss as to what to do next. As we saw in the comics, will he go ahead and wage a one-man war on criminals? Will he team up with Micro again? The only thing that's obvious to me is that Jigsaw will probably appear in the future as Frank's nemesis.
Also wanted to mention that JB's depiction of The Punisher is far, far superior to any other on-screen depiction of the character (Dolph Lundgren, Thomas Jane, and the UK actor who starred in Punisher: War Zone). Amazing casting by Netflix, but there's no surprise there - since they also did an amazing job casting DD/Matt Murdock, The Kingpin, Foggy Nelson, Elektra, etc. in the DD Netflix series.
Lastly, I was a mild fan of The Punisher back in the '80's, but never read much beyond his appearances in Frank Miller's DD, his '80's Spider-man appearances, and the excellent mini series from around 1985 (with art by Mike Zeck). However, the show is making me want to read some of the more popular '90's comics featuring the character.
