Never been a fan of giant robots and am totally immune to the alleged charms of the Transformers. Maybe it's generational. No, it's not just you. My generation were the first wave Transformers fans in the '80s and, though I kinda liked the concept of giant robots that could turn into cars and back again, I never actually had any interest in the cartoons, comic books or films. Same goes for He-Man, which sucks as well. ...But... but... He-man has such a great singing voice!!!

The funny thing about my favourite giant mecha anime series, is that most of them don't necessarily revolve around the mechas themselves. I adore Evangelion and Escaflowne, and though both included some really cool mechs, I couldn't tell you which of them is my favourite (though I'm somewhat partial to Asuka's Unit 02).
The exception to this, for me, is probably Gundam Wing, where each Gundam is very integral to each pilot's character development, and their designs make it easy to distinguish them. Really liked Wing Gundam, Deathscythe, Heavyarms, Sandrock, and Shenlong, and their updated versions.

Definitely grew up watching G1 Transformers and Voltron as well as collecting the toys. I tried to rewatch the lion version of Voltron recently but couldn't sit through it. I ended up watching the first ten episodes of the Japanese version Beast King GoLion which is a much better quality. I plan to watch Armored Fleet Dairugger XV (Vehicle Voltron) when I get the chance as well. The Big O as someone mentioned and aired on Adult Swim years ago was quite good and had some similarities with Batman. I rank Gurren Lagann as one of my top 10 favorite anime of all time. I've also seen the Escaflowne series and film which someone else mentioned. If Bubblegum Crisis is the one with the women who wore robot suits that sort of look like Power Rangers I've watched that as well. Power Rangers itself was a bit past my time but I have gotten into some other Sentai related shows lately including the Japanese Spider-Man series. I'd also point out that Spidey had a giant robot and fought kaiju before the Power Rangers did. I think I've watched parts of the Aquarion series but don't remember much about it other than enjoying it at the time. I wasn't much into Gundam but my younger brother was and still has a bunch of the toys in storage somewhere. I really enjoyed the Macross movie but have not watched the TV series and would like to do so. I've heard good things about Evangelion but haven't seen much of it either.

Same goes for He-Man, which sucks as well. I actually started rewatching the original He-Man series this year and was surprised by the quality of it. It's not nearly as bad as I expected it to be and have almost rewatched the entire first season. I think the animation holds up better than the original TMNT and Transformers cartoons, etc. Sure it's just a vehicle to sell toys with quite a bit of reused footage but the background artwork is often beautiful and some of the character designs are fun. Interestingly the reused footage first appeared in the Filmation Tarzan series and was then redrawn for another Filmation cartoon called Blackstar. Some of the concepts from Blackstar were used as ideas in the He-Man toy line like the power sword that broke in two. I also read the the original Battlecat toy was a repainted from the Tarzan toyline.
