Read the 3 issue prestige mini Martian Manhunter: American Secrets... no B grade Superman story here... -M Oh, there was one in the 50's, too? It's set on DC Earth-Haney, anything is possible Actually, iirc the story is set in the late 50s when J'onn arrives and plays out over a number of years, so stretches into the 60s, but I haven't read this since the year we did favorite short series for the 12 days of Christmas theme, and that was my second time, the first was when it came out on the stands. -M

It's patently unfair, I suppose, because I never read a page of anything that included him as a character, but I absolutely hate the look, the "sound," the concept, and the very presence of Lobo. Ditto "Bwah-Hah-Ha!" Also Hex. Do you mean Jonah Hex? I haven't read a lot of stuff, not being a huge western guy, but I don't see anything to hate about the character. Fully agree about your first two things, though. I also dislike Wolverine, who I presume was one of the inspirations for Lobo. And the Bwa-ha-ha rubs me the wrong way, for some reason I can't quite put my finger on. I also hate all the "strongest one there is" types, like the Hulk and Superman (and all Marvel's Superman surrogates like Nefarai, Sentry, Hyperion, etc). Actually, a lot of these "dislikes" can be boiled down to the power-fantasy aspect being emphasised too much. It's almost always there to some extent in any superhero comic, but when it takes over and becomes the over-riding concern, that's when you get annoying things like Superman always being more powerful than everyone else, or variations like Batman always being a step ahead of everyone else, or Captain America being morally superior to everyone else, or Lobo being whatever it he's supposed to be - more savage or something? I don't f*ckin know. And usually this superiority is demonstrated in the most ham-handed way, with all the subtlety of a scream in the face. Superhero comics at their worst.

I believe he's referring to the 1985 Hex series... where Jonah Hex was transported to a Mad Max-like post-apocalyptic setting. -M

This is an easy one, but I can't stand Deadpool in the comics or any of his mind-numbingly annoying spin-off series. Gwenpool might be the most annoying to me. It still chaps my behind that I liked the Deadpool movie as much as I did. Ugh! I loved the deadpool movie. But am I dying to run out and read his books? Nope. The little bit of silliness I got from the movies (and hope to continue to get when I wathbthe sequels) is enough for me.

Yes I hate Deadpool, Gwenpool, and Psylocke.
The Captain hates Rick Jones but I hate Snapper Carr.
Also Spawn and 99% of anything McFarlane has ever been affiliated with.

...what John Byrne did to Superman, what Grant Morrison did to Plastic Man, what Alan Moore did to The Joker, what Frank Miller did to Batman, what DC did to Captain Marvel, what comics have done to women, what Mort Weisinger did to his staff, what The Joker did to Robin, what The Comics Code did to comics, what time has done to all those great publishers such as Fawcett, Quality, Fox, Lev Gleason, etc...

And what Vince Colletta did to Jack Kirby's pencils.

Sounds like you don't like comics much...

And since I've chimed in about Thanos, I might as well mention my other "I absolutely hate"s: The Punisher, Mantis, The Black Cat, the post-Crisis Luthor, and every costumed kid sidekick every conceived. Cei-U! I summon the anathema! I get that you don't like the post Crisis Luthor but he was a more complex character. The previous one was beat by Superman every time. At least the post Luthor could frustrate and out maneuver with his political clout.

I hate: Anything by Liefield Campy 50s Batman Green Lantern Superman (sacrelige, I know) This Almost every bit of Green Lantern and Superman that I've sampled (Byrne's run on Superman aside) has been as interesting as wet cardboard. At least the Hal Jordan persona that I'm familiar with has always been a bore and Superman has always been the virtually invincible Boy Scout. That was the main reason that I liked Byrne's run. When he toned back some of the ridiculousness and humanized Supes a bit to where he couldn't wait to finish kicking Metallo's ass so he could jet back to Kansas and have a nice, quiet supper with Ma and Pa Kent.Agree, but I love the Silver/Bronze age Superman because he would win by solving puzzles , not just by his brawn. I love his world spanning jurisdiction also, they had him correcting earthquakes in China and stopping volcano flows in Hawaii. Superman was awesome.

Yes I hate Deadpool I hate Snapper Carr. I just can't stand Deadpool, but I love Snapper Carr to the point that he betrayed the Justice League and this made this fan very sad indeed.

I didn't start out hating post-Crisis Lex, despite his being pretty clearly modeled after Frank Miller's version of The Kingpin, another character I can't stand. It was the ridiculous level of overexposure that got to me, along with him never actually paying for his crimes (not to mention being elected president!). Cei-U! I summon the similar problems I have with the post-Crisis Joker!

No love for Spawn huh? I have only read the first twenty issues or so and to me they are fine. Also the HBO cartoon is very well done.
I also don't mind the Batman story McFarlane did nor do I hate his Spider-Man work. I just think his style overtook the industry and no one seemed original anymore so for that I have a bit of hatred.

How about some more hate? 1. Bob Kane's treatment and dismissal of Bill Finger. 2. The Seduction of the Innocent's baseless attack on comics. 3. Jack Kirby's lack of business acumen (that man deserved to have died a millionaire). 4. The legacy of Secret Wars I & II as well as Crisis. I actually like Crisis, think Secret Wars I was mindless fun, hated Secret Wars II, but those ushered in the event era in comics.
