To clarify, I'm talking about my friend's private collection-not the store stock. And I seriously doubt his collection was/is the largest as well And just like his ownership of Action #1, he's not going to publicize his collection. I would think many collectors of valuable collector's items tend to want some anominity Are you talking about the Action #1 that sold most recently? No, he sold his Action #1 a year ago directly to a private collector. It was graded 8.0 and he was paid $1.1 M

Saw this on Comicvine the other day: www.comicvine.com/articles/bob-bretall-holds-the-guinness-world-record-for-la/1100-149784/One of several details that blows my mind: Even with his large collection, he still buys 140 books A MONTH. That's got to be everything Marvel and DC publishes, plus a few indies thrown in for good measure. That translates into at least six long boxes added to his stash every year. I wonder how he finds time to read them all. I wonder if Bob Bretall needs a new friend...

I've never known what it's like to have too many comics to read. My last big haul was about 30 books and I finished over the course of a week. I wonder how many he has read more than once or if he keeps even the ones he doesn't like. It's really kind of easy to get in that situation. When I got back into comics a few years ago, I was devouring them one after another. When I got low, I would order some more or pick some up from my lcs. But there came a point where money was too tight to buy any, and I ran out of comics to read. I settled for re-reading some of my small collection until I had spending money again, and the next time I went to my lcs, I made a deal with the owner to buy 2 boxes of the $1 comics for $50/box, and I got to fill the boxes with my own picks. I ended up with some titles I would've never tried otherwise, and I began collecting back issues from those titles, in addition to the new comics every week and titles I was already collecting. I was buying pretty heavily for a time because I didn't want to run out again, and eventually I got to a point where I have a huge backlog. It didn't take long, either, and I still buy stuff that looks interesting to me on a regular basis. I feel like one of these days I'll catch up, and I don't have to worry about running out now. I just try not to dwell on the fact that reading them all will be a massive undertaking. It's better than not having anything new to read.

He buys more books in one month than I do in three years! It's staggering!
